Another New GardenWeb Feature!

Have you noticed that in addition to your own threads, you can now subscribe to threads started by others? It used to be that you could only request replies be emailed to you if you initiated the thread, ie., made the first post. Now, when you reply to someone else's thread, there is a check box to request email notifications when replies are posted. So you can, in a sense, "subscribe" to a thread. I like that because, if you visit a number of GardenWeb forums, you can forget which threads you are following!

Note that on your Membership Details page, you must have the box checked for "Allow other users to send you email via forms at our site." See link below.

I don't think you can subscribe to a thread without posting a reply. (If I'm wrong, please let us know!) But you can easily type the word "subscribe" in a reply and get the job done.

Catt2006, I love this Forum also. Welcome! Be sure to input your birthday in the conversation section and some of us (as we get around to it) are posting a picture of our families & pets. I have one more pet to take a picture of and then I will post our family. Our black cocker spaniel has been hard to take a picture of, so far. In Brandon, there have been some excellent prices on perennials and shrubs. If you are near Winnipeg then check out some of the nurseries. There is a little nursery just east of Shelmerdine's that had all their plants 1/2 price. I picked up a clematis there for $7 a few weeks ago. Laurie and I got some stuff at Canadian Tire for $1. I bought a Prince Charming Lilac for $1 there. Home Depot was selling the clematis for $4 and Walmart was selling clematis for $5. At that price it is at least 1/3 of regular nursery prices. Roses at Walmart are $4 and a lot of their shrubs and trees are 1/4 of the original price this week. Some trees regularly $25 were on for $7. None that I wanted though. Check around Winnipeg and maybe phone the places first if you need to and see what their prices are now. Because the perennials, shrubs and trees are already potted in pots you can just pop them out and into the ground in your yard and they will be fine. Just give them a good watering. It is not too late for bareroot stuff either. I am just planting up irises I received from a friend and daylilies just were planted in pots a few weeks ago, awaiting their new home in my yard when I figure out where that will be. Hey there Helen! Welcome aboard! It is always nice to meet and hear from new posters- Please- do plan on coming to the swap. It is always a surprise as to who will come- and just what they may have to share this season. Your usual garden plants may be just what someone else is hoping for- and some one else may bring just what you wanted. And- even if there is nothing there that you may want to bring home- It is wonderful to put faces to the names you see posting here. I think we are a great bunch of folks! You can always look to our exchange area in the MN forum to post- or to read what is being posted for exchange- Or- you can look at each members trading page to see what they may want- and have to offer in return. Another GREAT way to enhance your garden is to look to the WinterSowing site for way too easy seed germination tips- and seed trades as well as the seed exchange or round robin exchange forums. That is odd DtD...I did upgrade my firefox a few months ago, I don't know if that could be it. Claire..this is what I got when I click on the collapse button...a new window that said.. Is anyone aware of ANY method to DELETE a post? If you edit a post to remove all content, when you try to post the updated, edited, blank version, you get an error message. Is there any way to DELETE an entire post - to remove all traces of the post?

As far as I know you cannot delete the whole post?? I've tried it but all it does is remove ALL the posting (words) but the post itself stay on :o(

If someone knows please share...

Nancy, as far as I know, you can't even do that. If you try to remove all content and repost (the updated, blank posting), it results in an error message. It appears that there has to be some content but I don't know how much. I don't think you can edit a previous post to a blank post.

By the way, this thread is a year old. I chose this one for testing so as to not annoy users by using a thread that had subscribers. :)

Oops...you're so right!! Never even noticed the date,lol...

You would think there would be a way to remove your own post but maybe they leave that up only for the powers that be?

If when you edit the post, it won't let you enter a zero length post, you can probably just enter a nonsense tag and close it like this:

<nothing></nothing>

That way the post won't be blank, gardenweb will accept it, yet nothing will be displayed in the body of the post.

I play around on the HTML forum and usually just edit the post to contain the single word "deleted".

No, that won't be accepted either. But I did just find out how a 2012 thread got bumped to the top of the forum without any obvious recent posting. From the GardenWeb staff: "Members cannot delete posts, but we can. Most likely the post was bumped up because it was spammed and we removed the spam post."

Makes perfect sense. :)

But yours does leave the "edited by" tagline whereas the other thread had no trace of any recent post.
