Hostagalore1, has pointed out that we have this option now! I wonder how long we have and we've just not noticed?

I hope we can make good use of this "conversation forum"! I never want to offend anyone with OT's so I'm glad we finally

have a place "to go" for a good OT discussion!

yup, thats a mango seedling treefrog, thanks. Im in the smack center of CA in Fresno. I live in the central valley where we get LONG dry summers (typically above 110 degrees) and cool, short, wet winters (Dec and half of Jan). So far, we've had a couple of frosty mornings, but nothing to hard to protect any plants. There is only a bit of damage to dypsis lutescens, majesty palm, hibiscus and bouganvillea. Temperatures begin to rise quickly begining this first week of January so there is minimal danger for any more damage than what is shown in the pics above.

Thanks so much everyone for the welcome back. It does look like there's a lot of people moving in right now. Congratulations to all of you. I cannot wait to have the house ready enough for pics. Right now I'm on dial-up so trying to post pics would be a nightmare. Seems Verizon now cannot get our old DSL service transferred to this house for another 10 days! Apparently their computer needs to "run it's program" which so far is into it's second month. Maybe I should go to their office and dump a cup of Starbucks on their computer to speed it up! But I'm SO GLAD to be posting again and just oh so thankful we're IN! Allison, I sure hope 2 years from now we're out there enjoying that porch. The weather here has been almost 90* and very humid (rained yesterday). But the evenings cool off and after unpacking boxes all day it's really nice to go out there even if we are sitting on beach chairs (we gave all our patio furniture to our son)!!! twitchy, I don't watch Paula Dean so I don't know what her refrigerator looks like. Our hardware is coming from the Roseland Ice Box company and it takes 4 "moons" to get them. Wouldn't think some tiny latches would take that long...crazy! I've put a link at the very bottom of this post. It isn't exactly what our's will look like but close. The hinges are the same but I'm choosing different latches. amyks, Yea, the RV campground was interesting to say the least. We had bear, coyote, bobcat and deer while we were there. I know there's cougar in the area but we didn't see one. There's 5 bears that would take turns every night raiding the trash cans. That campground is only 1/2 mile from my home and so we have them here too (seen tracks). I told DH we have to make sure our trash is secured. I don't want them thinking we're a supermarket. A friend lost one of her dogs not long ago from a bear and I sure don't want my "babies" (both g-kids and dogs) to come up on one. lorraineal, You're probably the smart one to get it a bit more finished than we did. You have to be getting up pretty darn early to brave SD's morning traffic to get the house open for your subs. The cost to refinish marble countertops will be based on size,condition of stone(how severe is the scracthing, etching and or staining,cracks,chips,etc)type of stone(darker stones and some limestones can be tricky to refinish)time and materials. Special pricing if we change the finish from polished to honed(easier and reasonably priced) or honed to polished(which is impossible to do to granite on site- very-difficult to do on marble(can be pricey). Our pricing on an average kitchen(60-80sqft) with normal wear and etching will start at around $650.00 and up. Larger kitchens with multiple islands and multiple countertops and other areas over 100 sq ft can that can be done in a day will start $900.00 and up. Pricing will vary region to region. Stone refinishing is one of those trades where experience is very important. I have been doing this since 2003 and still learn something everyday. While some stones are easier to work on others can be a serious undertaking. Not to mention the possibility of damaging fixtures back splashes,cabinets etc. Other issues could be dust or water containment and proper masking techniques so appliances,wallpaper,furniture and fabrics are protected . So While I am sure that a very handy person could do or try to refinish the stone there is the question of purchasing and using the proper equipment. I have a couple pictures I posted on Gardenweb that constantly get views. One here at the KT was posted in 2008. It still gets several hits a week... This past week it had 15 views. The original thread was dated May 14, 2008. At the time it had 16 replies - but still FOUR YEARS LATER it is still getting views. It is probably off of Google searches that lead to it, but that gives you an idea of how many people are looking at things here - not just the "KT Family" that you may think of. The 2,000 hits the photographer got is a good indication of how many people are lurking... I know that my pictures are getting those views by going to Photobucket and looking at my stats.

OK now heyj, give us some of you best graphics.
I've always enjoyed them and have always wondered,
"how'd she do that?" I do good to just send an email correctly. hehe.
Bring em on girl. They'll be welcomed by all now.

Got to get out and dig up that last nematode-infested hosta and get it in the hot water.
The other day I watched my hubby use his gas-powered post hole digger (auger) sp? and it dawned on me --well duh, why don't I get him to use that thing to dig me holes???? That thing has sure made planting much more easier, especially since my hubby is doing it. lol He doesn't mind doing it for me either. (even better)
Yesterday, I heat treated 2 plants and during the treatment they kinda fell apart (got divided) so I ended up having 8 plants instead of 2. Hubby drilled me 8 holes for them. If they all live I'll have 8 new plants next year.

What a great idea, Sassy, for digging hosta holes!!! Another thing that you might just "love" is a wood-chipper! I'd have to go right out and buy another if anything happened to ours where I couldn't use it, not only for all the branches and trimmings on the trees and shrubs but for pine mulch! I use the "bark mulch" for planting the whiskey barrels, and pots etc. as well as for using in the hosta holes to loosen the clay and add a compostable material to break down eventually and add to the "quality" of the soils!

Oh, and you are sooo kind to give me "permission" to have fun with my graphics! I love doing them--did I
need to say that? LOL I love the creative part, using Photoshop (self-teaching) and the fun of getting an idea,
bouncing off something said that I want to have fun with in making a "hopefully" appropriate graphic!

I'd be very glad to help anyone who wants to learn to do something of the sort yourselves! It really isn't that
difficult if you can "draw" with a pencil or pen otherwise!!!

Oh wow, Jamie!! I love it! You're going to be fun, I can see!!! Glad to see this side of you! See, there is so much
more to enjoy with one another! I have to believe that "hosta-folk" have to be the most interesting people and
discovering the dimensions beyond hosta, will be great fun for all who are really interested in the sharing of ourselves!!!!

I have no problem with you, or your "thoughts"--that's how we all get to know one another better by "talking out" our thinking and sometimes it even makes us see both sides of any issue better! Why do you think we'd like to dunk you in
ice water? LOL That is just too cute!!!!

Sassy your hubby and mine have something in common (something I think a lot of men have in common) - a love of "power" tools.....LOL......I'll be sweeping the leaves off the deck with a broom and he'll offer to clean it with the "blower", any excuse to use those tools.

My hubby fixed the penguin clip so I could email it all over the country for may family and friends to see.
(He's the computer geek in the family) Also is saved on
my desktop so I can see it every time I need a "lift"
That is just the cutest thing that I've seen in a long time.

I emailed it to my hubby whos computer desk is 4' from mine.
I just heard him giggling and looked over to see what he was giggling about. Sure enough, he's watching the penquins. Thanks Jamie
