Try it and see if you like the taste of the combo. Not sure what you want though, just a mix of the two frozen, a jam, jelly, preserve, or just canned as is..

I haven't tried it, but I bet the tartness of the rhubarb would really perk up the mulberries.

I've not really settled on any particular use. I just wondered about the combo and if others have used it in any/some fashion. I just noticed the first ripe berries on a tree across the yard while picking some rhubarb and the thought struck me. I figured if anyone had done it I'd find it here. =)

I'll let you know what comes of the mixture. At the moment stewing the rhubarb in the berry juice has some appeal. (I can't eat berry seeds, sigh, but have some old jelly bags for straining juice.)

I get the red raspberry seeds stuck in my teeth so I use a Villware food strainer to get the pulp and juices out without the seeds. These strainers have fined holed berry screens that can squeeze out juice in a matter of seconds. No prepping needed and you have no need for a jelly bag. I like the machin efor tomatoes too.

My sister used to make mulberry jam and it was delicious. Never thought of them with rhubarb. Let us know how it turns out.

So it's rainy and gloomy this morning, perfect time to try the great mulberry/rhubarb experiment. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ken, I have lust in my heart for a Villaware strainer. Each time I hear it mentioned my eyes get a little misty and I drift into a little fantasy of beautiful smooth tomato sauce flowing from the machine. I had even put money aside to buy one this year when the county decided that street lights which blazed through my bedroom window with enough candlepower to read by was a good idea. Several dream items went by the wayside so I could buy blackout curtains. Seriously, I have to have blackout curtains in my room.

I went to a county commissioners meeting and reminded them oh so gently that their lights were against their own building code. I was told that street lights were exempt since they were for the public good. I kindly invited them all over for a sleep over at my place but they declined. I suppose I shouldn't complain too much, I'm saving $$ on my lighting bills. ;^)

In some cases they can put up a shade plate adjacent to the steet light that acts like a shade in one direction. Here, I use blackout shades and these cost about $6 each. The orange sodium lights are the worst for being annoying. Hang in there, you may find a Villaware or its newe iterations someplace soon.. And yes, it does produce an really smooth tomato sauce with little effort. If its for the seedy berries, you do need to get the optional (and additional) berry screen.

I have made rhubarb mulberry jam before. I used an older recipe and it had me add a package of raspberry koolaid to the mixture while cooking it. I think the extra flavor helped out because as much as I love mulberries the extra flavor kick brought out the mulberry taste. I made it for my grandpa years ago because of his memories of the rhubarb mulberry jam. I need to find a mulberry tree and make some and let the kids get all purple with stains. Remembering having black feet from all he fallen fruit is such a good growing up memory.

Raspberry koolaid? Interesting. Do you remember if it was sweetened or unsweetened? My first trial tastes pretty good but is a bit thin. It'll be brilliant on ice cream I think. I have plenty more berries so I just have to wait for some more rhubarb for round two.
