very nice pictures! we still have our snake living in the bird house, saw him yesterday half way out. amazing how high those things can climb. found a snake skin a good eight feet up in a norfolk island pine last year.

Curious, why do you want a snake?

Many snakes are beneficial because they feed on rodents (rats and mice), insects, frogs, slugs, lizards and other snakes. I feed the birds the year round and the bird seed attracts other animals, less desirable than birds. The snakes add a green control for this problem.
An added benefit to keeping the non-venomous snakes around is that they often keep the poisonous ones away. For example, the king snake will eat venomous snakes, like rattlesnakes, and is immune to their venom.
I think our snake is a southern black racer. These snakes are quite active during the day, which increases the chance of sightings. They will eat almost any animal they can overpower, including, rodents, frogs, toads, and lizards. They have been known to charge at people in an attempt to frighten them, but will usually retreat  if challenged. Members of this species generally do not tolerate handling  even after months in captivity  and will typically strike and flail wildly every time they are handled. These snakes are usually thin with a jet black dorsal side with a grey belly and white chin. They are quite fast, giving rise to the name "racer".

I get quite a lot of them of various sizes. They all have fleed every time so far. They have a valid place in the ecosystem, and should not be removed from it without significant reason. I'm sure they eat their share of invasive cuban frogs and brown anoles, but are a predator of opportunity.
