Black Beetles eating tomatoes

User

I planted my tomatoes late this year, and they are just getting some ripening fruit. I know it's late for regular tomatoes, and maybe this is why I've never had this problem, but I have black ground beetles eating entire tomato fruits! In order to keep them from doing so, I have to pick the tomatoes as soon as they start to ripen, and let them ripen indoors. The minute they turn a nice red, the beetles attack.

Other than chemicals, is there anything I can do about these beetles? I have a Cherokee Purple that has some beautiful fruit, and I'd love to have them vine ripen.
