Thanks usmarine! Im glad my yard looks warmer than a zone 7, I wish it was! Hunter, I have lots of different plumerias. Some dont have names. The ones that do have names are my Plumeria Obtusa, Plumeria Pudica, Plumeria "Maya", Plumeria "Califronia sunset", Plumeria "Scott Pratt", and Plumeria "Divine". I have 2 with no name. One of them makes gigantic white flowers and the other makes smaller red flowers. All of them have a great fragrance, except for Pudica which has no scent, but blooms more vigorously than all the others. Jacklord, I overwinter all my palms with christmas lights, a frost cloth, and a garbage bin. My Med fan palm just had christmas lights and a garbage bin and my frostproof gardenia just had christmas lights and a frostcloth. One of my Trachycarpus just had a garbage bin. All my plants survived with no problems with this protection, except my Sabal Domingensis. S. Donmingensis is definitely a soild zone 9 plant, and it did look good right up until March so I give it credit for that! Thanks for looking! The deck is just about finished. I definitely would wait until its a little bit older, but definitely try it outside, they are definitely one of the hardiest palms but a big problem is too much moisture so I will probably put a plastic bowl over mine during the winter. Thanks Keith! I dont give my oleander any major protection. Last winter I just protected it about 4-5 nights when temperatures were below 20F, but the winter before I kept it protected much of the winter since it was plain cold outside. I protect it like my palms, some lights, a frost cloth, and a garbage bin. It worked well when it was younger, but last year I was only able to give it a frost cloth on cold nights since it was too big for the garbage bin. They are easy to protect since you can tie it up and make it very narrow, I think they are easier to protect than most palms. They look really messed up coming out of their protection, but all the leaves pop back up with a little sun. -Alex

Yeah, it gets to be a lot indoors, but luckily my family doesnt mind too much (well they mind, but they know how much it means to me!) and my dog is pretty good with not eating any plants (but she does love to get into the garbage). I will definitely post some indoor pics when the time comes! Thanks Island! Yup! I live in NYC! Some plants are in pots, some are in the ground. A few, like the palms in the ground, survive the winter with some protection (I just put some christmas lights and a garbage bin over them). Others like the elephant ears and bananas are easy to bring in and store for the winter. Some of the plants cant be dug up (like the coconut palm and tropical palms) so those are in pots and get put by a sunny window! The plumerias go dormant so they are pretty easy to keep indoors, but the large one might not fit indoors this year! The Passionvine, cannas, and ginger are hardy. The purple plants under the Elephant ears are called Purple Heart. They will be evergreen in your climate which is a huge plus! They look good up until temperatures get into the upper 20s, then they die back. They are hardy to zone 8 and up, but they come back for me since they are in a good microclimate. They are a little invasive, but easy to control and I think they are worth growing for sure! Thanks for looking everyone! -Alex

Raestr, I didn't see dianthus in my local garden center; I usually see it in the early spring there but not later in the spring. I love dusty miller and may try it next year to tuck in my pots, but I like a lot of splash and am looking for a rock star rather than supporting cast type of plant. I'll try a test pot of dianthus next year. I have dragon wing begonias all over my yard in containers, but I put them in areas with more shade than this spot. So if you get the chance to try dragon wing begonias then you should go for it. Since my impatiens got downy mildew my dragon wing begonias have shouldered the burden in my shady spots. They aren't as beautiful as big baskets of all-colored impatiens but they come close. I really love them. I don't "tuck" them into pots but give each plant a pot of its own because they need the room. My mother grows them in more sun than I do, a blast of late afternoon sun, and hers are beautiful. I have them underneath a big potted stained glass hosta and beside some caladiums and they are beautiful. I planted my pots now and I went with sun coleus (Flamethrower chipotle and one other kind), blue daze evolvus, gold japanese forest grass, caladiums that say 2-8 hours sun and some Bounce impatiens that say 4+ hours of sun. And a bit of angelonia.
