Saturday Tour Garden Number Three

The Third and last Garden visited today was The Patricia Neuman Garden in Sag Harbor, Long Island, NY.

Driving up to the Neuman Garden. There were already many daylilies to see in the lovely front yard.

An enticing view into the garden.

Backyard views were increadable as the house sat way up on a cliff overlooling the ocean, which you could just stand there and watch.

There were more daylilies in the front that I would have liked to take pictures of but I had used up the pictures in my camera by now.

What a view! I didn't know that daylilies were hardy to salt water. These sure are beautiful. But the view just kinda dwarfs them. I've never seen the Ocean, so I would have been mesmerized. Now, the daylilies would have been such a wondeful addition once I got over that. Again, Great photos. Thanks so much, Mona

The garden is high up on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The daylilies are not at all near the salt water but you sure can see the water from this yard.

Well, you said it was sponsored by the local newspaper? Harumph! Newspapers-there's your first clue. I could write reams about all the things I dislike about news "services" and the disservice they do in a community. One-sided reporting, politically skewed editorials, ignoring the good and sensationalizing tragedy, publishing photos of people in the initial thoes of agony of loss. How these "news" people go home and call themselves humans, beget children, and have the nerve to show their inhuman faces in a community, I really don't know. Well, ok, even snakes lay eggs, so I guess I can cut them some slack on the crack about begetting. Advertising a garden tour, then to not even have the courtesy to let you know that your particular garden didn't fit the criteria, or that what they were looking for just wasn't located in your neighborhood, or that this wasn't actually a Garden Tour hosted by the Beautification Committee, but a Contest to see who has the best gardener hosted by the beautiful people committee. So instead of serving the community, your newspaper serves those who have money. I'm sure your garden is very beautiful, and I understand that the gardens that get toured often suffer a lot of damage in the course of the tours. Those wealthy people won't care though, they'll get to hobnob with the other wealthy people in their town and then they'll have their gardener come in for a little overtime next week and put everything right again. Even though you truely wished to share the beauty of your garden with the people in your town, sometimes our greatest blessings are our unanswered prayers. Cheryl

I think this is my favorite of all your tours. Simply amazing what they have done with what looks like a small lot. The constant flow of color and texture is what grabs my attention. Daylilies with Hosta? I would have never guessed it would work but it looks fantastic! I have one little spot that gets sun in my shade garden and it has a dl in it but it is several feet away from the hosta...will have to see if I might sneak in another daylily. Thanks so much for sharing your pictures.

oh boy,I am injoying this.I would have been by the fence looking at the Emmu's and Miniture horses.I love them,too.Don't care much for the big goats but sure like the little pigmy goats.Use to have a pr of them.These day lily beds are gorgeous.I am so glad you took so many pictures to share with all of us. WOW Rita, thanks for taking me on your tours. I LOVE this garden, what a view!! I can't imagine seeing the ocean every morning along with my flowers. This is a gorgeous garden. Good luck on your tour today, I can't wait for more pictures.

Rita - thanks for the spectacular views! The BF says Sag Harbor is only 20-40 mins away from Mom-in-laws place! Hehehehhe... You had quite a day.

mlwgardener - WHAT? Never seen the ocean?? Woman, you better drive yourself south! There is nothing like it. It really just does something to your soul to see something so gigantic and lovely.

Long Island has lots of daylily gardens because we have a very large and active club. I know that the National tours were on Long Island the year before I got the daylily crazies so there really is alot to see.

From what I understand, these 6 gardens on the members only tours this weekend have never been on the members tour schedule before, or haven't been on for many, many years. So it was really great.

They also set it up this year so that the three gardens on Saturday were way, way out east that were all very close together really once you got out there. So those gardens weren't usually seen by club members unless you happened to be a friend of the garden owner. Then today they bunched three together close by to each other in central Nassau county.
