Some garden pics...this time mine LOL

Took some pics this evening after dinner to compare how the season is changing. I did notice we have alot of rebloom scapes coming on. I can only think this is because of our unusually early start to the season.

Please ignore the weeds and uncut grass but not enough hours in the day to get all the work done here and more rain is on the way for the next couple of days :-(.

I started taking out the bearded iris a couple of weeks ago from one of the beds to divide them again. They sure do increase quickly.

I tried my hand at starting zinnias from seed this year and so far they are all growing but wished they were as tall as the coneflowers. Suppose to grow to 24 inches. I tucked them in between the coneflowes and coreopsis.

I love my butterfly bush and it smells so great. Plan to get one for the back patio area once we finish everything.

That is it for today. Hope you enjoy a tour of my garden...well some of it anyway.;-).

Well I thoroughly enjoy seeing others' gardens. That rock wall sure looks like a lot of work. I see lots of space for more daylilies too!

I love the rock wall and I love all the garden bed shots. I looked and I didn't see any weeds either, just pretty blooms. And I loved the last two pictures with the coneflowers.

I, too, googled "What is a DH?", feeling very silly and sure I'd never find an answer... I have to add, however, that the title of the thread ("Not a plant question") has gained additional irony in the time elapsed since it was originally written - just the other day, one of my kids used the expression, "Are you a PLANT!?!" to indicate that someone was utterly clueless. Petunias (LOL) - time to get first set of 'real' leaves?

If the non-pelletted seed is germinating slowly or not at all then it is poor quality seed. I have found most pelletted seed to be of good quality, often it is stored better and is fresher because it is an expensive new hybrid. Petunia seed should germinate in a week or so but it depends on temperature. I apply bottom heat for the first two or three days but remove it at the first sign of any germination so the seedlings don't stretch too tall. Once the seedlings are up, I find it takes a couple of weeks to get the true leaves. I'll sing along with you, I have a batch of petunias that have just about straightened up with the seed leaves. Once the true leaves come in, you should start on very dilute fertiliser. Seed-starting soil has no fertiliser in it. I use a general purpose potting soil and don't fertilise for a couple of months because it has fertiliser in it. I don't use hydrogen peroxide or any other anti-fungal. I have 100% germination on this batch with three-year-old seed and would be devastated to lose even a single one. You need to look at your growing environment if petunias damp off.

What a nice bunch! Which brugs am I growing? I have a little dilemma about that. Last fall the chilly weather came on before I was ready so I was kind of a maniac cutting them down to haul inside. In the process the tags fell off so......as Gomer Pyle would say (I know, I'm dating myself)...."Surprise, surprise, surprise!". I lost a few of them over the winter too so we shall see. At the end of the day it doesn't matter - I love them all. I do however a penchant for pink - pink anything! Maureen

Hi Since you seem to live in zone 10 florida might make some general comments about temperate plants here. Since the most you can hope for here is a cool rest period some years ,you picked a tough family of plants to grow .lol Any plant that MUST have a cold dormant period suffers here for sure . Now you CAN grow temperates here but need entirely different management methods. I find that there are just too many tropical species that flourish here to fiddle with extreme dormancies. Note that Florida has at least 4 major zones with dozens of micro climes . Of the CP"s your best choices are NEPs they grow like weeds lol While Sarracenias grow wild in northern florida they languish here. When selecting species choose those that require no dormancy as well as those from low altitudes that can't handle the heat. Look for TROPICAL species . Now there are ways to grow anything here but I guarantee you it's a lot more work than you want to do!!! This hold true for all kinds of plants not only CP's Save the temps for when you have more experience with fighting the heat lol goodluck gary

Thanks for showing us your garden. It looks wonderful. Looks like you have lots of room there for more daylilies. Could you send me some of your rain?! Most of it seems to fall apart before it gets here.

Your garden seems to go on and on! Wow, so nice! Lots of blooms still left up there by you, not so much here.
BTW, how do you keep the deer from eating all your DLs? I'm assuming you have deer.

Well, I don't see no weeds no where. All I see is gorgeous flowers and a pretty rock wall, and lots of room for more flowers.I loved the tour..

I love your garden and your stone work is to die for! Aren't your coneflowers pretty? I love them! Everything is so nice and what a nice space you have. Yes, iris do multiply fast.fast.fast.

Count me among the fans of that gorgeous stone wall. I'd love to have some hardscaping like that in my garden. It really sets off the daylily gardens.

The stone wall is a 'work in progress' as I would like it to be a bit higher. We had a barn that was taken down so used alot of stone from that to build the wall ( hubby, myself along with my son and our John Deere tractor, did all the work). I have another stacked stone wall which is stone taken from a pile we had when they dug the foundation for the house. Everytime we find some nice pieces, we add to the walls.

We have the area where all the beds are with temporary fencing. I use milorganite to keep the deer away. The only ones who seem to have broken through the temporary fencing are the fawns but they haven't touched any of the plants. We have alot of fields so the deer mainly stay out there.

We rely on the weather to water the gardens. We are on well water here so don't want to drain our resource. I also use a rain barrel for any new plantings to keep them watered during their first year. After that, they are on their own.

Heavy downpours here already this morning. Suppose to rain most of today and through the weekend. DARN. I wish I could send some to others.
