Single Male ISO Female

Hi,

I don't usually do this, but my friends encouraged me so I thought I would post this profile and see what happens.

All my friends have parnters except for me. I am looking for a life partner to settle down with and to raise a family.

My hobbies include singing all day and all night - repetitively. I enjoy mimicking hawks and other birds, garbage trucks, cats and car alarms and I am told I am quite good at it too. I also enjoy sitting on top of telephone poles and singing at the top of my lungs. As you can tell - I REALLY enjoy singing.

Oh, and I also enjoy long, romantic walks on the beach at sunset.

I have posted a few pictures. Please do not respond if you are of a different species - it just won't work and we'll both just get hurt by it. Serious inquires only.

What a birdbrain I am. I was just going to recommend Island Pete, but I won't go there. As for GW Bush....don't even get me started.

Just saw your discussion, 6 years later. :-) You may not still have the plant by now. Def sumac, agree with the coloring on the base of the leaves being characteristic, and the legginess comes from shade. It may be too shady there to flower. Correct that both males and females will flower but only females will produce fruits. Also --- in 2016, I dug up one from the side of the road that I knew was female because it had fruit. I transplanted it into my yard and it was fine and healthy, but for some reason, the thing never bloomed until this year, 2020, 4 years later. No idea why. I'm doing backflips over it finally flowering.

Hi Everyone, I bought Kantola (spine gourd ) seeds from someone and tried most of the seeds (about 16 seeds) but none of those were germinated. My dad used to grow this plant and to my knowledge it grows from tubers and it is a perennial plant. If any one has the tuber or plants can I have it please. I don't mind to pay. Lots of male pumpkin flowers, no females?

It's normal for males to dominate before females start to bloom. Even then you will see pretty much one female to every ten males. To the poster who thinks his male flowers are dying off: all pumpkin flowers bloom for only a few hours every morning before they die off. As for not cutting the male flowers, I disagree. I've been growing pumpkins going on ten years now and if there are no female flowers to pollinate, then I will cut the male flowers just before they start to shrivel. I've yet to get a diseased plant doing this. I cut the male flowers because they are delicious to eat. So if you don't get pumpkins, you can enjoy cooking and eating the male flowers throughout the growing season. I cut off the stem, gently rinse them under cold water and saute them after dredging through a thin whole-wheat pancake batter - yum! BTW. I should mention that pumpkins are very difficult to hand pollinate. You'r e better off putting out bee loving flowers early in the season in order to get your location established on the honey bees routes. Ants do a pretty good job also, so if you see ants around your pumpkin vines, then do not try to exterminate them. If you do want to hand pollinate, then use a very soft artists brush and lightly stroke the pistol of a male plant (you should not see tons of pollen - in this case a little is too much), then lightly stroke the stamen of the female plant (again a little is too much). Even then you are not likely to succeed with hand pollination.

three female hummingbirds chasing male from feeder

two days after the post, a new male came to the feeders, I'm not sure, it may be the one earlier I though was a female, but later in the day He was perched on top of the post the holds the feeders, and he turn slightly showing red coming from the back of the left side of his neck an area about 1/8" wide by a 1/2" to 3/4", I'm assuming he a juvenile, but he has taken control, all the other males are still around but he runs them off just like he does the females, today he made friends with a female, it worries me, is it not a little late for mating. The bird feeders are all setup close to he end of the trailer, no bird is farther than 3 foot from the window, so far the birds have had no problem with the closeness, other than the newest hummer will get cranky every now and then, and tries to chase the cardinals that come to the feeders, he never succeeds but it doesn't stop him from trying. I changed the feeders around yesterday trying to get ants in tack, and I had a few surprises as the other birds would go to a hummer feeder then look puzzled, what was cute was my favorite of the bird, birds was a titmouse that landed on the hummer feeder and scooted all the way around the feeder looking for the food, then started picking the container that holds the sugar mixture, he found his food foot above his head. I did try an get some video but because of the speed and the lack of shutter speed, all i got was a lot of green and a blur of a bird here and there. It is so amazing how unbelievably our eyes are! I'm not sure an automated camera can keep up with the wide area of movement that the hummers cover even in close areas.

Heh...'branch out'...luv it!

I couldn't resist posting this. This poor mockingbird is apparently not having any luck finding a mate although he is trying his hardest. I thought I would help him out by posting his profile here on gardenweb. LOL.... ;-)

He sits on top of that telephone pole all day long in the hot, hot sun and all night singing and singing and singing his little heart out. I can't believe he doesn't 'cooked' in the heat.

Sometimes, he performs 'aerobatics' above the telephone pole where he will fly up above the pole in a leap/fly and then settles down and perches for a while to sing some more.

Poor thing....I hope finds true love soon....

Thanks so much for the laugh! It is mating season (all summer) so you are in for a long serenade unless your guy hooks up. Instead of the cats and garbage trucks, maybe play him some Jimmy Buffet to imitate - attract some tropical chicks......

yesterday afternoon, i listened to my mockingbird trill through a handful of tree frog songs... i love florida!

Ha ha ha!!! I love the mockers too. They are so persistant in their search for love. Do they ever sleep? We have a wren that is doing the same thing.

sultry_jasmine_night: ironically, he has a song that I swear sounds like 'pretty bird...pretty bird...'.

Mockers are cool. I hope he finds a Mrs. so I have lots more to enjoy next year.
