Telling apart male and females Azures
Comments (1)Celestrina (like many other species of Lepidoptera) are pretty easy to sex even on the wing. With Lycaenidae in general, females tend to have darker and much wider borders on the dorsal wing surfaces than males if both sexes have similar color shemes, and/or a darker more subdued overall color scheme than males do. The food plant list is either short or long depending on which of the three species. Such a broad question would be answered the easiest by your checking already published data, either book or website. A simple search for "Celastrina" will get you all the answers on this genus and its species... BioQuip.com is a good source for lepidopteran books if you want to buy one. Comments (4)Well I just keep watching them this morning and they are both fliting all over down there, wing waving like crazy. The momma did finally figure out the mealworm feeder this morning. I have it clamped on a small 3 step stepladder and this morning I took it off and just put the dish on the stepladder and she ate out of there. Then I put the feeder back onto the ladder and put the dish in it and left. She flew to it and then away but later I saw her go into it. Yeah! I am going to check the nest today and see what if anything is up in there as I haven't checked it since Friday. I am still not convinced that this is the original male but then maybe I am just overreacting to things. Donna...See MoreHow to tell male and femals Black Gum apart?
Comments (5)hey farmy.. is that you.. long time.. no time .. you would observe a group of trees at a tree farm.. when they are in bloom ... and have one tagged for digging or fall delivery ... presuming that by the time it flowers.. it might not be the best time to transplant??? in the alternative.. you do such at bigboxstore ... and decide if you have to hold the pot over.. until the next proper planting season .. once you have chosen wisely.. chain it to the bumper.. and drag that sucker home.. lol ken...See MoreHow to tell male vs female custard apple flowers?
Comments (3)Phamaily, thank you for the video link. This is what I watched too, and follow this method to pollinate mine...Keeping my fingers crossed. I am in OC. In the mean while, I google some more and found this picture. It's the same flower, but different stages of that flower make it either female (stage) or male (stage) http://personales.mundivia.es/schrader_gomera/chiribl.jpg...See Moreniruvilas
