A couple from last night... (pics)

Lots of decent blooms last night (FINALLY!), but it was too dark to get many decent pics by the time I got home. It didn't stop me from being in absolute heaven wandering around and looking at the new faces though! I thought I would share the few that I was able to get to come out in focus.

CALLING ALL ANGELS--will open better for me as it gets warmer, but the bloom is wonderful even when it's not in it's full splendor...

ETOSHA TWINS

EGYPTIAN QUEEN again, but in it's whiter version....

And a seedling FFO from COQUINA KEY X WILD MUSTANG that I see potential in. I moved it into the garden from the seedling bed last fall as it was always pretty but the slugs were a terror to it. Now I can keep a better eye on it and try to get a few chomp free blooms. I can forgive the splotchiness in this bloom due to our weather, and am dying of curiousity to see what it does as the weather warms up!

And some Japanese Iris just because they are soooo pretty

Julie, your Japanese Iris are gorgeous. Don't you wish daylilies came in that shade of blue?

So glad that your bloom season has finially gotten off to a great start. The waiting seems to take forever. Hopefully with the weekend coming up you will be able to get more pictures. The ETOSHA TWINS are my favorite of your group, very pretty.

Love MENDED HEART. Got to go and check that one out. Your seedling does have potential and I wouldn't mind having that one.

Cindy: When your SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS blooms, do post a pic. I've got that one too from Curt but it is not a star performer here yet. Debra: This many blooms this late has to be due to the amount of rain we got over the past month. I don't recall this much showing at this late date. Mantis: yes, earlier pics of GEECHEE were better but just shows how much a late opening with cool temps can do to a daylily. Celeste: I've admired your pics of COUSIN SUZANNE. The race is definitely on here too! Linda and Kay: I'm so thankful to get these blooms this late in the season. I'm always on the scape hunt because I just never know what will show itself. KIOWA SUNSET has always been a favorite of mine. It is registered as a EE but here, it doesn't start blooming till early July and the scapes are taller than 23" as registered. Lights at night do put a different perspective on palms (and other plants). What's also good is just using a flash on plants at night for photos, you get some very interesting effects. You can lose a lot of background clutter. That Encephalartos looks great. Look on the bright side, not only will the plant benefit from being carried back and forth but it'll also be great exercise for you, a win win situation.

I do hike alone at this wildlife sanctuary if I can't find someone to go with me. It's just a a short distance from my office so is a perfect retreat after a harrowing day. I feel perfectly safe there but carry pepper spray in the event a human animal gets a little aggressive. :-\ This Bobcat showed no fear and sat in front of us (I was there with a neighbor gal) for a couple of minutes before casually getting up and walking into the bushes. After crossing a small bridge (6 ft or so), my friend and I traveled down a small trail off the main trail only to discover it was a dead-end. When we turned around to head back to the bridge I looked up and the cat was just sitting there ahead of us, right where we had just passed. He was between us and the bridge. My neighbor was *very* nervous even after the cat left the trail. I stopped to peer into the bushes and saw it sitting calmly about 15 feet in, blending perfectly with a log it was sitting in front of. I hike this area at least twice a week and it was my first Bobcat sighting. Jodi-

I didn't mention that the message above was sent from a library near I-75, near London, KY. Being from London, Ontario, I'd gone in there on the same trip, three years ago, wanting to send some messages ... and, thinking that I was in a library, asked to use computer, and for internet access, to be met with some substantial reservations ... ... until I realized that things didn't look right for a library, and, when I asked if it were, was told that, no, ... it was a bank. So I dug out a one-Dollar and a two-Dollar Canadian coin from my pocket ... which they found interesting, as they'd never seen them. The library in London is not now operational ... they have a lovely, spacious new County Library near London. This is on Sunday afternoon, after the conclusion of the Korea Missionaries' Reunion. I enjoyed the gathering, what little of it I attended - mentioned some aspects elsewhere, earlier (regarding plans for Sunday, I think). Now off to visit my niece and family in Gainesville, GA. Rita, Boy do I ever wish that the daylilies came in those shades! You never know what the future will bring though!

ETOSHA is a favorite of mine (although I say that about half of my blooms I think!) It is not only pretty, but the bloom is 6+ inches. It is usually darker in color, but it is one of those "washed out" ones that I grow...warmer weather growers have a lot more color but I like my version better!

Calling all Angels is my Fav of the group. Love BIG dark eyes.

Definately post a picture of that seedling when the temps warm up. Bet it is going to be gorgeous.

Julie; Those Japanese Iris are very pretty. The 2nd photo of them ia very pretty. My favorite DL is ETOSHA TWINS.That is one beautiful bloom, Love it, and your seedling is looking really good, too.Hope you post it again later.

Those are wonderful and I love, love, love those Japanese Iris. A friend from another forum sent me some dark purple with gold markings Japanese Iris. I fell in love with them. Your colors are beautiful.

Very, very nice, Julie, but my favorite is still Egyptian Queen. (I think I mentioned that in another post.)

Your Japanese Iris are gorgeous. I can't grow them here, because my ground usually dries out too quickly.
