Ed (Ole Joyful) visited us last night! pic

I met my first KTer!! And it must have been a long day for him! He made it to our area around midnight and we visited with him until 2:00am when he had to leave. I wished that he would have stayed over, but Ed has places to go! LOL

Jason and I (the kids missed seeing him of course as they were all in bed, darn it) thoroughly enjoyed Ed's visit. What a charming and knowledgeable and interesting man! I hope you all have the pleasure of meeting with him one day.

Here is a picture although it is AWFUL. Well it was 2 in the morning. And I did force Luna to sit with us. I wish we could have had a few outdoor pictures and shown him the sites but it was, well dark. :D

Thanks SO much for including us in your trip Ed! We enjoyed it and one of these years we're going to brave the trip to Ontario and return the favour!

I enjoyed the visit, as well - Danielle found CR's scrubbies helpful.

I also found that Jason and I have some common interests: I don't think that he got more than a couple of words in edgewise into the conversation.

Ed's sort of full of himself.

Slept in the car a couple of times ...

... but they thought that I was going to my brother's in Regina area (south-east) and I changed plans - went to Saskatoon (north-east) as I wanted to see a former colleague from the Korea days who had a stroke a while ago, plus a former college room-mate, and my niece, plus another former colleague.

Visited a church where I used to lead a youth group (that church burned many years ago) and am visiting my (liberal Protestant) seminary now (grad 55 years ago), hope to visit a couple more long-ago friends, then to Regina later today.

Need to be back in Ont. just after the weekend.

Visited the Canyon on Sun., a bit chilly, but quite a few clouds, so somewhat less interesting for taking pictures. They say that some of the rocks are over 100 million years old, and that it took the river about 8 million to dig that trench down the more or less 5,000 feet. Such a variety of formations and colours. And average width 10 mi., but widest about 18 mi. - and over 225 mi. long. A fabulous place. So much for some claiming the world to be about 6,000 yrs. old. Came home Sun. night, Kathryn to bed early, up about 6 to co-ordinate people training laid-off workers in webinars, in the Eastern time zone. I checked Phoenix maps and attractions, thought of going to library but didn't. Read a book, "The Joy of NOT Being Married", by Ernie Zelinski, from Edmonton, while sitting near busy daughter. Some thoughtful ideas related to the lives of singles, whether original or retreaded. He also wrote, "The Joy of NOT Working", dealing with various issues relating to people who have been laid off, or retired. An opportunity for a wholesale re-evaluation of life ... good idea to be prepared, etc. A concept that comes close to Kathryn's profession. It must be tough to be opimistic, vivacious and perky in a gathering of people whose spirits are lower than a snake's belly in a wagon track. Wearing. We had dinner on Monday evening with Kathryn's good friend from several years ago when she first lived here - who loaned us the laptop that I'm using now. Kathryn bought an attractive 3-br. condo in the northern area of Phoenix in the late spring and is enjoying it: a major reason for the trip was for me to see it. Hi Iva Mae, I`ve been planning to dwell on that package, and some other matters, with a bit of embellishment, probably, but not stretching things too much, over on the jokey thread about the jockeys with the tired elastics (that got some folks a bit huffy) a week or so ago. Or ... should we suggest that those folks got their shirt-tails (undershorts) sort of tied into knots? (I`m in a newly opened library that has French (slash) English keyboards, some of the keys have double use, and I managed to get the (E with an accute accent) rather than the question mark, and the (e with an accute accent) rather than the forward slash ... and the computer tech here couldn`t find the key to shift the usage back, so she set one up for me for the question mark ... but not the slash! (The exclamation mark works ... but the apostrophe is on a dual key, as well). Life ... do ... have its problems, right� ? ole joyful

Just spent part of the afternoon arranging with stockbroker to make a gift of stocks that have gone up in value to a major charity, to distribute to a number of others. When I cash the stock, put the proceeds in the bank and write cheques to the charities, come tax time I have to deduct the purchase price from the sale price and pay income tax at regular rate on half of the difference. But when I donate them to a charity, I avoid paying income tax on the capital gain. For the past couple of years I've been able to avoid federal income tax ... largely by gifts to charities, churches and making political contributions. We had both federal and provincial elections last year, so larger political contributions, and larger charitable contributions, helped avoid tax on an increase in income, last year. I like them apples better! ole joyful.

Jeepers, Ed you should have stayed! I fretted about you driving that long, that late. Well, I'm relieved that you are okay...and not too far away at that! Enjoy your visit and safe travels.

Although we're a tad groggy today we very much enjoyed your visit!

The bag on my lap is a memento of Mom's family's get together at my brother's farm, with colourful illustrations on each side and had a booklet with a short history of the gatherings that have taken place since 1981.

They had a family tree placed all around the walls of the attached garage ... and a very great many of them had a picture of the person attached. What a job!

It was a wonderful weekend.

P.S. For the picture ... you'd think that I could have combed my hair ... and I had about two days of stubble on my face.

It's a good thing for my reputation that it was rather dark!

And, Jason ... after some contemplation beside the road to Outlook ... I drove straight north on that road that you pointed out, till I got to the highway to Saskatoon.

Plus, Carol posted two threads, with some pics on each, in case some of you may have missed them.

I'm in Munising, UP-MI, Mon. 10:45 a.m. Eastern, and expect to be home late tonight or tomorrow morning.

About 4,000 mi. so far, I think - and I'll need to change oil before trip to NC.

NO, I'm NOT gonna do it. I'm NOT!

Well maybe someday when I get a passport I'll make another trip to Canada, but this time eastward!

I didn't mention that the message above was sent from a library near I-75, near London, KY. Being from London, Ontario, I'd gone in there on the same trip, three years ago, wanting to send some messages ... and, thinking that I was in a library, asked to use computer, and for internet access, to be met with some substantial reservations ...

... until I realized that things didn't look right for a library, and, when I asked if it were, was told that, no, ... it was a bank.

So I dug out a one-Dollar and a two-Dollar Canadian coin from my pocket ... which they found interesting, as they'd never seen them.

The library in London is not now operational ... they have a lovely, spacious new County Library near London.

This is on Sunday afternoon, after the conclusion of the Korea Missionaries' Reunion.

I enjoyed the gathering, what little of it I attended - mentioned some aspects elsewhere, earlier (regarding plans for Sunday, I think).

Now off to visit my niece and family in Gainesville, GA.

It's confession time, I think.

I've become used to what I look like in the mirror - I wash my face and/or shave ... occasionally.

And I guess thatI haven't seen what I look like in a picture, lately - though I have some pics from the Church family book taken not too long ago, but they look professionally done. And in them, I don't look old.

But when I saw this pic, and the ones from the visit with Carol and Wes ...

... I figure that I look like - an old man!

That's right, an old man.

Not that I've been acting much like it, lately, with all of this gadding about.

I guess that it's about time for a reality check!

Wish me luck for the years ahead, O.K.?

I'm enjoying this adventure of yours Ed. I didn't know you where going to be in London, Ky. though, that is only a couple hours away from me. I love the pictures. It is blasted hot anywhere in Kentucky right now. Good luck with your trip and keep us posted.
