Shady / moist herb garden?

I've got a large section of my garden (30' x 3') that only gets morning sun, and then heavily filtered light 'till midday during peak growing season. In the early spring, it gets partial sun most of the day, until the neighbor's trees fill in their canopy. It also is a damp area where rainwater stays in the ground for a long time (but not standing water), and relatively sheltered from wind. the soil is decent (100 years ago, it was orchard, but untreated lawn for the last 50)

I'd like to plant something useful there - medicinal, aromatic, aesthetic, or culinary. Can anyone name some (preferably z4 perennial, or self-sowing annual) herbs that would do well there? I'm fine with letting them spread, and it's up against a 4' chain link fence, so climbers appreciated.

Thanks for your thoughts.
