Kinda sounds like my problem except mine is nine years old and about 2' tall :) Has never had a flower on it.

It took over 3 years for our persian lime tree to produce. I know it is not a key lime but I swear I thought it would never give us any limes! This year was the first year we really fertilized it and trimmed it back a bit. I don't know if it was the fertilizer or just that it finally decided "now is the time."
Good luck and I hope you get some limes because they are awesome! And that cake looks like it is to die for :).

Some citrus can take as long as ten years of growth before it decides to flower . Luckily , Key Limes tend to bloom much earlier than ten years .

" The key lime has a high total heat requirement and needs plenty of direct sunlight in order to produce good sized fruit. Remember that the key lime does not tolerate flood conditions, and too much water can damage roots, especially in poorly-drained soils. Prune the tree only to shape it, and to remove any random sprouts that appear on the trunk. After the first growth appears, fertilize the tree with 1/2 pound of citrus fertilizer and continue every 6 weeks for the first 3 years - February through August . Nutritional sprays can be applied 3 times per year or as needed. "

I had 4 limequats (similar to key limes) and about 8 Meyer lemons on my little fruit cocktail tree last year. The limquat part was only about 18" tall, and the Meyer only about 2' tall. This year, there were tons of blooms, and lots of wee little fruit...UNTIL the week of the 16.4 inches of rain in four days. When all the rains quit, every single fruit had fallen off, and there have been no blooms since. *sniff* I feel your pain, Lellie!

I planted a very small limequat about a year ago.My first venture back into citrus after the existing trees were removed by the state. It has grown and produced a lot of fruit but not of very good quality. About two months ago it started developing a type of leaf curl only on new growth. As it progresses the leaves ttwist even further and turn black. . Anout two weeks ago I noted that these same syntoms are appearing on my neighbors newly planted trees.. Even more noticeable on the grapefruit. Where can i find treatment or diagnosis.??
I was going to plant some more citrus but glad I hesitated. Whatever this is is progressing very rapidly. Thanks gary

My lemon and lime trees dropped almost all their fruit after the heavy rains. The grapefruit still looks great - it's one of the prettiest trees in my yard and has always been a good producer. I think it's 'Flame'.

I had a Key Lime and thought about trying one again after I lost it. I had it for 5 years and never had more than 2 fruit a year. I think I would keep it in a large container so I could wheel it in when the temps drop. In Z9 the Key Lime didn't do well at all.

Lellie, you mentioned the fruit was only the size of a quarter - that's about right and they don't get much bigger than that. A bag of key limes looks more like a bag of big marbles! It takes a handful of them to make a pie (or that yummy looking cake!).

I have had a different experience with my key lime tree. I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. It was in a 30 gal pot and 3 1/2 foot tall. It had blossoms on it when I bought it. The first year it produced fruit all year long. I lost count after about 300. Honest, the smallest fruit was golfball size. Many were just a bit smaller than lemons! The second year it produced even more! It grew to 6' The only problem I have consistently had is citrus leaf miners. Unfortunately, during our 2 day cold snap in March this year the key lime took it hard. (As well as my 20' fishtail palms). The whole top 1/2 of the tree burned and died (yes I covered it). Almost all the older leaves have dropped. Now the tree is 1/2 the height and squatty. (is that a word?) New limbs are now growing but blossoms have been slow to come. It does have some fruit but not like before. Leaf miners are attacking enthusiastically! Any suggestions?
