I'll be there, Kate! And look at Marcia, polishing that coleus crown of hers. I suspect I know what kinds of plants she'll be bringing...

I should be able to have a pink pet rose or two, various brugs, pentas, butterfly bushes (spreading downright invasive - plant at your own risk), Salvias (Anthony Parker, black and blue, leucantha), scented and regular geraniums, agasatche and probably some yard long bean seeds. Who knows what else.

I still don't know and won't know until we get much closer to the date...still waiting for surgery, which is getting me depressed thinking about having to wait. It will be sometime in Nov. before the Insurance OKs it. Did you have a date in mind Kate? I so want to get up that way and meet some of the folks that are going to be there. In any event, I am starting cuttings and seeds. It will of course be much easier once I get my potting bench back in place and we finish the pavers. Still, I am hopeful I can make it.

It'll be hard to top the last swap here but I think alien plants would definitely push us over.

For the novices wondering how this works: as Pat says, when we get much, much closer to the day I'll collect any email addresses I don't have and send out the street address. I won't divulge every one's email address to anyone else because I know some people are sensitive about that. I would also caution you not to do the 'reply all' response because some people really hate that and we've gotten caught up in that once or twice in the past.

- Some swaps will be set up ahead of time and many more will happen spontaneously the day of the event. People will have plants set out on the ground and on tables; swap etiquette says that you always ask before taking.
- I'm not anti children but small kids are probably not a good idea. Teenagery people are welcome.
- We'll have the grill going - DH did some nice chicken, brats, and hot dogs last time. We'll also have enough water to keep us all hydrated.
- Anyone who wants to bring a side dish or desert is welcome to do that, but it's not necessary. We usually have lots left over so please don't feel like you have to stop at Publix to pick up food to bring along.
- We will not be offended if you want to bring something more fun to drink. I'm sure I'll have a glass of wine or a beer in my hand. What was it last time? Wine mojitos? It could happen again!
- I won't have enough lawn chairs so if you have one that's easy to bring, that's a good idea.
- In October it shouldn't be too hot, but we'll set up the tent in case it rains (again). In case of a late season hurricane, we will change the date. Anything less than a hurricane probably won't stop us.
- Halloween costumes are welcome. Most of us probably look a little scary in our gardening outfits anyway!

Can't think of anything else right now but if anyone else has any comments/advice/etc, please share.

Ohhhhhhhh! I hope I can make this one. I had to miss Ricky's because of a family problem. I hope to have royal poinciana, crown of thorns, ground orchids, maybe some ginger.
Scavaging these from my neighbors, my yard has NOTHING, but as my son says it's clean! HAH!

I have something to add. At swaps I always remember to thank my host or hostess with a special plant, garden art or just something especially for them for inviting all these crazy gardeners to their home. Kate I am really going to try to make it this time.

I have a lot of rare seeds coming up so I will actually have something to trade for this one. I am so glad I do. I will bring a salad and a dessert (diabetic dessert). See you in October and who knows what I will be wearing. Linda

Oh, I would love some scented basils. I have the purple ruffled/curly leaf one and the African one with the blue stem and they seem to grow so easily.

Thanks for offering to host this Kate. It sounds like a ball! Please include me on your notification email. I have a bunch of cuttings and seeds started, but have run out of pots and hate to spend $$ on buying new ones. Anyone bringing extra empty pots so I can justify continuing my propagation addiction? I really need to find an outlet for all my baby-making :)

I live near Kate but in a rural area with 5 acres. We have a big house and pool and I would love to have a post-swap party for any of you needing a room in the area for the weekend. Especially you crazy ladies! :-)

I have tons of guest space - I am holiday central for my extended family so am well equipped for company.

Sunday we could arrange some garden tours. My garden is pretty good and I know of at least three people in the area (Chuluota)who have wonderful gardens that perhaps we can tour. One of them is owned by the person who did all the landscaping for Discovery Cove and includes aviaries of at least 100 exotic birds. It is just incredible. He sells plants as well.

Please let me know if 1) you want to stay here and if so what night or nights (Fri/Sat) and 2) you are interested in Sunday garden tours.

Does anyone have any experience growing Paw Paws? I just ordered a bunch of seeds and was hoping to have some seedlings for the swap! Also order some of the pink dwarf Royal Poinciana (I know it is not really poinciana but I can't spell cepahalssina or whatever it is called).

May I be so bold as to invite myself? I am still pretty new to this circle of friends. You all seem like a fantastic bunch of people, and I would love to meet you all. If I don't have plant material to bring, may I bring something with a gardening theme to share? The only thing I can really propagate off of is my brugmansia, but I did a hack job on it this spring already... I would love to bring food!!! Let me know what would be more of a help to bring!!!!

That is so very generous of you. I would love to join in on your tour. I am in Sarasota so it is quite a drive for me. I don't know if I will be able to stay overnight but if I can, I would even be grateful parking my car in your property and setting up a small tent. I really want to attend the tour. Pat, I don't have experience with Paw Paw but was told when I bought mine at the nursery that they are very, very sensitive with their roots and DO NOT like them tampered with. So make sure you don't disturb the roots when you put them in the ground. I planted mine last year and they are doing OK. They are slow growers I was told.

Wow, I haven't been on line much lately and have missed a lot of messages here!

Christopher - plumeria seedlings are always appropriate. I usually have a bunch but didn't get any started this year. You are definitely close - I'm in EastWood - so it will be about a 5 minute drive for you.

Someone earlier asked about hotels. I know Anita has generously offered space but just in case the hotel information is still wanted, I would suggest hotels.com or priceline.com and looking for anything around UCF (University of Central Florida). There are many hotels in the area in all price ranges. UCF is just 10 or 15 minutes down the road from here. Sorry I don't have any specific information.

If anyone comes in the day before the swap and wants to drop off plants so they don't sit in your car overnight, that's fine. We'll find a spot of shade for them.
