Kristy, under no circumstances should you log onto the Lily Auction. You will be broke in no time and it's just like gambling, clicking on the buttons and out bidding other folks on that one plant you just can't live without. LOL Now remember dear your friend warned you. It' just like they tell little kids, don't get in the cookie jar. Can't wait to see what you come up with after you've had the opportunity to look at what all they have to offer you there. Wait till you see the prices of some of them for 1 fan only. LOL Go on, get your feet wet like the rest of us. Oh, by the way your Kwanso will take over the world. They do make a beautiful bed along driveways and such. Another thing, if you get started growing more and more and want to make some crosses of your own. It might be a good ideal to keep all your tets in one place and all the dips in another. I'm so crazy I didn't know you couldn't cross them with one another so mine are planted altogether and I don't have them marked tet or dips so that's another small chore I didn't do when marking them all. I think I now have well over 500 named daylilies. The first 350 or so where the older ones under $15 dollars. Now I spend a little more one the newer ones. etowah, I suggest you try various rooting methods to see which will work the best for you if you can take enough cuttings from your tree. I rooted many trees with August cuttings so you should have success as well. If you do not have enough cuttings to experiment with, I'd use the baggie method followed by the direct water method. I took some cuttings from a fig last week. As an experiment I placed 3 in soil/perlite mix. Two of these I used a root hormone (not recommended) and one I did nothing to. I placed baggies over the pots to keep in humidity. I put another one directly in a cup of water and placed a baggie over the cup. I change the water every other day. I have 2 additional cuttings wrapped in damp paper in a baggie. One bagged cutting was dipped in root hormone and one was not. The potted cuttings and the one in water as well as the bagged cuttings are in a 15Gal covered plastic tub to hold in humidity. It's next to a window so they get solar heat. In one week the cutting in water is showing root initials! The bagged cuttings are not. The ones in soil I do not know how their rooting is progressing but the leaves I left on are still perky and strong. More later as they progress. Sue

What do you mean by you "piled up dirt against them"? If you added more dirt on top of the plants, that may not have been a good thing to do. Daylilies are very sensitive to how deeply their crowns are planted. Their crowns CANNOT be more than 1" below the surface of the dirt (a bit less is better as the plants tend to settle in deeper). The daylilies will survive, yes, BUT you won't get any bloom scapes (which is, after all, the whole point of growing them). Been there, done that with a seedling - which did not bloom with the rest of the cross, until I went rooting around and discovered that it had settled in way too deep. So please go make sure that your crowns are 1" or less below the surface of the soil.
