I was at my potting bench wearing a pair of cropped jeans. I felt these horrendous burning sensations up my leg. The only thing I had at hand was a can of beer and I started soaking my pant leg. A bee or more likely a wasp flew up my pant leg and began stinging my leg. I got 3 stings and it left me with huge welts.

The only amonia I had was in Windex! I went running in the house, grabbed the Windex with amonia and began dousing my leg. It helped immensely, but still stung. It is still very hot and swolen. I hope this doesn't happen to you!

I have had a number of bees and wasps around my potting bench where I have cuttings for Ricky's and a lot of flowers in bloom. This guy was ruthless!! I am hoping soaking in the tub later will help the burning subside.

Sorry for sharing the ugly part of gardening. When I was headed back out to finish re-potting some stuff, Dennis thought I was nutz! Ah, the gardener does not let a few stings stop her!

Ouch Cindee, that looks so sore. I hope you heal fast. The Windex reminds me of 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding.' Maybe he had something there.

Zactly what I was thinking after I sprayed my leg, Teka. The Dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding!! (love that movie) Sprayed pimples and paper cuts with Windex. LOL!!!!

Same here Teri, I ended up getting stung by a wasp while I was repairing the bottom rail on my fence. Something SHARP on my wrist and when I turned it around to look---- there was a wasp and I batted it off in a hurry. It hurt until I poured Peroxide and bactine on it (grabbed anything) then I put a poultice on it and cut the top part of a sock off to pull over the bandage so I could finish my job with a can of spray near by. Had to replace 3 rails. Come time to paint, that wasp came out and went back in saying, "Oh it's just that ole bag I bit yesterday!" They must have a nest under my vestibule which I am in no hurry to investigate and get rid of cause every fall I have to crawl under there to lower a jack to compansate for the raising when the frost heaves it up. Terrik, congratulations to your daughter for graduating college and getting a job as a graphic designer. I'm thrilled for you both. I think your idea of using bookcases in the entry is the best solution. I lived in a studio apartment and I know I wouldn't have wanted my bed to be the first thing anyone saw when I opened the door. Besides bookcases give great storage. I shopped at Ikea for your the plan I drew up for you daughter showing names, pictures measurements and prices for the items I picked. The TV I shopped WalMart for. I also used all the furniture your daughter already has. I angled the bed so that one side was to the back of the bookcases instead of using it for a headboard. Personally, though I didn't draw on it, I'd look for one at thrift stores or on Craigslist. I'd make sure to attach the bookcases to each other and if possible to the bedframe for more stability. I know it might make making the bed a bit more difficult, but I'd rather than then having it be knocked over in the middle of the night. You'll notice the center bookcase is deeper. I did this because everything one needs or wants to store/display doesn't always fit the depth of a standard bookcase. The lower part of the doors could also be frosted by using "clear" contact paper in order to somewhat hide things you'd rather not show. Clear contact paper when put on glass looks frosted. They do have frosted contact, but it has a design in it that might not go with your daughter's style. The chair I choose folds out into a bed incase she needs room for an over night guest. Possibly a place for her when you and hubby come to visit. The kitchen table is an island. The stools fold and will fit against the wall when she needs the island as a prep area. You didn't mention she had a TV so I added an LCD one on top of her current dresser in the corner since I doubt she's be allowed to attach it to the wall in a rental. I put her desk against the closet wall and in front of the kitchen island. It works space wise, but that will something she'll have to see how it looks in person. Anyway...here's what I'd do if it were my studio apartment. Will you be able to visit her when she moves in? I was able to be with our daughter when she got her first apartment and helped her furnish it. We had so much fun! I linked below to photos of it. I helped her with the living room and kitchen. Chispa - It was just laying on the floor so I dont think there was anything it got caught in. I know there was a small gecko living in the house. The tail seems kind of large to be his, but i did see him near the bird room a few days ago. I dont think anything would be big enough to eat the birds, unless it is a large snake, but there’s no way a large snake got in here, unless it came through the fireplace. Whatever it is, if it’s still in the house, I suspect it’s a reptile and living under the built in appliances in the kitchen where it’s warm. I’m going to get up tonight with a flashlight and look around. The birds are safe at night because they sleep in night cages in the master suite area.

I did reply to K's text. Today we went to lunch and I hugged her as I left. She's feeling better. No harm done. K is very emotional-she feels left out when a waiter refills someones glass but not hers-she takes it personally. She's called me in tears because she felt someone at work slighted her because they didn't tell her good morning when they passed in the hall She knows that V and I do so much together and V posts pictures of us and vice versa. I also post pics of K, too! I've been very fond of her over the years, but I'd never call her my best friend. My DH is my best friend too, until I met V and I realized we were soul sisters. We talk nearly every day, and we spend every bit of free time we can with one another. Call it juvenile but I won't apologize for having found someone in my middle age life who I'm probably closer to than my own DH. At least with her I can gripe about him! K and I have been very long time friends, but I've never felt that spark with her. As an adult I had one other friend who I once told that now I know what it's like living with me-we were so close, so much alike and she was my best friends, but she passed away several years ago. K also knew her and knew of our relationship, but never said anything about feeling jealous. I have a bunch of really great, sweet friends who I'd lay down my life for, but they know they're not my "best friend". I don't believe it changes the dynamic of our relationships one bit. Many have their DH's as their best friend, and some, like me, have a female BF as well. I think I can say that my friends all know how much I value them, I let it be known frequently. As to my FB, I've got a limited number of friends on there. Those who know I'm an open book and share in my quirks and foibles. Only people I care to share with are my friends, just like IRL. I share less, actually, on FB than I do IRL. But each person uses FB as they chose. I don't understand the people who have 735 'friends', I just don't have the time for that. ETA the 'announcement' wasn't like that. I'd mentioned I went to a store that is in the same town V lives in and I said it was a great way to spend some quality time with my best bud who I don't get to see often enough I didn't even call her out specifically!

Cindee, since you don't have ammonia, use the windex. Soak a paper towel with it and hold it on there as a compress. Move it from bite to bite. The more use it, the better you'll feel. I feel so sorry for you, my friend. And take a benedril if can use them.

I don't have benedryl, Kathy, I do take 24 HR Alavert daily for my allergies, but I will take a sudafed tonight too. I am allergic as heck anyway! The Windex is REALLY helping, I have my leg wrapped in a paper towel soaked in Windex! The guys are laughting at me, they said I will have the shiniest streak-free leg in town tomorrow. LOOK OUT BIRDS!! GUYS! I said you want to feel this burn?? They both declined and said even tho I have the best looking legs in the house, they don't want mine tonight! LOL!!!

Ohmigosh Cindee! That looks very painful! If the windex doesn't work tonight, try some meat tenderizer and ice. I hope you got the little bugger with some of that windex too!

Owwwieeeee! That looks PAINFUL! Send your hubby or son to the store to buy you some Benadryl!

I hope it doesn't hurt as bad as it looks like it does. :(

Cindeea sorry to see how bad you got hurt.

These bugs are getting much smarter...the other night I came home and walked from the car to the house....I was wearing jeans..long regular jeans...I was fully covered..I was standing int he kitchen talking to HUbby and all of a sudden I feel a horrible bite....so I hit my jeans but it still hurts...I finally take off my jeans and shake them.....I found a HUGE mosquito.....went up my pants the little bugger.....I thought long pants were safe....guess not anymore :-(

How does that cellulitis look today? Those pictures look more like a brown recluse spider bite than a mosquito bite and the pain you described certainly doesn't sound like a mosquito bite. Hopefully, I'm wrong as I'd hate to see those areas of cellulitis turn into ulcers...if they still look bad today you need to seek medical attention and get on some antibiotics immediately.

WOW,nice legs Sindee. I was distracted there,sorry. I do not think it was a bee. Bees leave the stinger,they only sting once. Feel better friend.

Cindee, I'm so sorry! That had to be a wasp, because a bee loses its stinger when it stings, and can't sting but once. I'd take some benadryl as well, not just cream, because you may have an allergic reaction with that many stings.

Ice is good...really good...I speak from experience. I once sat on a blanket my cats had been on and got bit by about 1000 fleas. Well, maybe not 1000. The entire backs of my thighs, and up the insides, was one big welt.

Talk about itching! I thought I would go crazy! I had to go to work, so no Benadryl. I used like 6 tubes of super strength lanacaine until the swelling went down and it stopped itching, which was about three days.

I'm feeling for ya, hon.

Cindee, are you sure it was a wasp and not a spider? I'm sure I don't have to tell you to keep a close eye on it. I was bitten last year by a spider and it looked like that. My leg was very hot and swollen and then it got worse. My skin actually started turning black. Ended up having to make a trip to the doctor. Can you see any punctures? Poor baby!!! (((Cindee)))

Yes, Cindee, do keep an eye on it (as if you could IGNORE it!) to be sure you don't get any ulcerated areas that might mean spider bite. BUT, I have had exactly the same reaction to wasp stings when I actually saw the wasp sting me. So it CAN look just like that, depending entirely on your sensitivity. I had a small red wasp sting me on my waistline once (yes, I used to have one!) and it swelled up and encircled my entire waist. It was very hot to the touch, and in general, looked just like yours.

You are doing all the right things, I think. And unless you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or you see any ulcerations or infected areas, I think it will eventually go away on its own. Hope it is MUCH better today!

Cindee, I hope your leg is feeling better. I know that bees and wasps get mean when you're near their nests so be careful when you're at your potting bench. Maybe look around (from afar, lol) and make sure you don't have a nest near it.

Cindee, I don't think this will help now, but maybe in the future if you get stung again. I keep oregano oil on hand for bites. As soon as I get bit (usually fire ants) I put the oil directly on the bite. It helps pull the poisons out and really lessons the reaction. But I have found you need to do it right away for best results. I got what I think was a wasp sting and boy did it hurt. I went right in the got my oregano and a couple hours later I was telling my hsuband and I couldn't remember which arm got stung. I could't find it! I also have APIS, a homeopathic remedy, on hand as my husband really reacts badly to bites like you do.

Thanks everyone. i kept up with the windex and then took an epsom salts bath last night. The swelling went way down and today I just have a little redness. It didn't itch at all and once the swelling went down, it didn't hurt. I am pretty sure it was a wasp because I had one buzzing around my feet and knees just before I got stung. I never heard of oregano oil! Thanks for the tip. Amonia usually works really good for me, I added it to my grocery list. I usually keep vials of it with Q-Tips all around the house outside. But alas I am out. Again, thanks for caring...Felix, you sound like you been hanging around Tony too long Ha ha!
