Yard and Garden --pictures from this week

This morning when I was getting the newspaper I noticed a rare sight. A male and female squash flower next to each other. Notice the difference:

Lots more beans coming!

The Cattleya (strawberry) tree just started blooming:

I posted this picture last Friday of the jabotcaba fruit forming.

This was this morning (Friday):

This variety of African Blue Basil is a superstar:

Apple Blossom amaryllis:

Striped Panther amaryllis:

Daylily:

Anise Hissop. I bought this plant about 3 weeks ago so I can't take much credit for this one:

We have some wild honeybees in an old water oak. My husband thought that he was doing them a favor by cutting away some leaves covering their entrance way. Well, they are doing what a beekeeper calls "bearding". They do this to cool the hive down. Hopefully, new growth will give them some afternoon shade again soon.

So, that's what went on around my yard this week. Happy Gardening!

Christine
