Teeka: I think too much sun is the problem. I've read sites that refer to sun bleaching of the leaves. Perhaps the sun your varieties tolerate is for those grown farther north.

I can look across the street at the several clumps of Red Sister my neighbors have in their front yard. The clump on one side that is only partially shielded from the hot afternoon sun has leaves similar to those you describe. - June

I have several of the green variety back home in England that are 10 feet high & we get lots of rain & cooooooool weather, i sent one over & tried growing over here but failed, i now see these for sale in home depot ect & just laugh, so i don't know about the red variety, good luck Frank

I think you are right, the labels are probably not intended for Florida sun, at least not 6+ hours of it.

I am going to go through the process of moving the ones that get the afternoon sun or maybe adding a palm tree(good excuse for another purchase!) to shade them.

I have the green ones,too, but I put those in the shade(all the labels said shade)...for some reason these red variety say differently.
