Here are some dark blooms, which are actually bright spots, from the past few days:

CREATURE OF THE NIGHT (a little blurry thanks to the wind)

Very nice! Night Wings is so dark, it looks black. I can't wait until my Nosferatu clumps up and looks as nice as yours. Love the colors on Nightshift.

Love FORBIDDEN DESIRES and NOSFERATU. I'm not usually into dark daylilies by NIGHT WINGS has such a unique look about it.

Also like NIGHTSHIFT. Nice contrasting edge on it.

Dean, the Gossared website _ http://www.daylilynet.com lists Yellow Hornet for $35. for a dbl fan. Sir Blackstem shows in the latest Eureka as being available from the following at $5.00 each: Day Bloomers Garden, Eatonton, Ga.; Moons Farm, Hartsville, N.C. and Simple Pleasure Lily Farm, Scarborough, ME. Black elephant ears are really nice....they like dappled shade and are great by ponds or fountains. Japanese blood grass turns a nice dark red...it's pretty in a shaded corner of a garden. I really like my bronze leafed Fringe Flower bush....dark bronze, reddish and green leaves with bright pink flowers. It loves full sun and is drought tolerant, also. Love the dark sweet potato vines....I planted a couple different kinds last year and they're proving to be perennial here....one is a really pretty dark purple and green. Of course, for really bright color I love Persian Shield, doesn't do too well in my zone, but I do have one that's just starting to grow again. Ohhhh....also some begonias are dark leafed as are New Guinea Impatiens.

I found three hostas growing on the side of a landfill area once.....did I risk life and limb climbing up the side of the mound to get them? Bet your booties I did! Divided them up and got enough for a 50' row to plant between a new bed and the edge of the road, next to a fence. Turned out to be Honeybells but it makes a beautiful background! Would I filch one from a public place or private property? No, but maybe a piece from an abandoned property, if I couldn't find the owner. Not the whole plant, mind you, that might be too obvious, but just a teenie eye or two.....lol!

The dark side of soil improvement (trigger warning: urine)

I think others are doing a good job on discussing the mole issue, so I'll go for the controversial lol... Here's the thing... if people were aware of what is routinely used on commercial crops, some would not ever want to eat again. Many revel in ignorance. I have no problem using urine on my garden and giving it to people to eat without telling them. However, out of concern for the 'ick' factor, I don't use it on crops that are near harvest ready. Urine is sterile, but I also don't use it if I am sick, or am taking medications. If I have had a lot of salt, then urine is channeled into the compost pile where it can be removed with rain. Myself, I would rather use my own urine than source-unknown cow manure. Some fields even have municipal waste spread on them. Not to mention chemicals. To me, it is a much greater societal sickness to be removed from the natural world and have a complete misunderstanding of the basic chemistry involved. What kind of disgusts me... people who live in rural areas have probably all seen cows standing in ponds during the heat of summer, urinating out one end, and drinking from the other. I don't eat meat... but if I did...

You have alot of nice ones that are purples or just dark. All are pretty but I like NIGHTSHIFT the best.

Oh my goodness, those are gorgeous!!! I missed them, so glad I looked at page two. Nosferatu! Oh how gorgeous, and I love the clump shot. There are so many dark lovelies here. I can't believe there is one as dark as Dark Wings. I have Velvet Plum and love it. These are just gorgeous. I think a lot of people missed these, so I'm glad this will bump it back up and give them another chance.

I'm glad this was bumped up too because these are just gorgeous David! I'm really liking the darkest of the dark! Night Wings is a must have if it really is that dark and Smith Brothers....LOVE EM!

Yes, Night wings is really that dark. It stays that dark as I have it somewhat shaded during the heat of the day. In the evening it remains that dark.
