I thought this would be a fun thread. I was just browsing online catelogs and I found this one

Crotchless Panties

Can it get any worse than that??? LOL

Uh, I don't know. That's pretty bad. It would be perfect for a dirty, naughty daylily themed bed, though. lol!

Nope, not held. They're been topped (by DWN) when they were whips, and I am sure they are the leftover bare roots that the nursery potted up. Not sure how things work in other areas of the country, but just about all of our nurseries will cut off bare root fruit tree sales by March, and then they pot everything up, just like bare root roses. And if you buy a newly potted up BR tree, the nursery will recommend you leave the tree in the pot until about May, so the tree can better establish the root system, before you disturb it to plant it. I have all my trees sort of lined up in an open area of my yard right now, getting ready to go into the lower part of my yard, so I can kind of compare them in size. Did the same thing in the nursery, and I did notice that the peach trees seemed smaller and a little less vigorous in their growth habit than other stone fruit trees. Especially my Stark. They only had 3 Stark left (kind of a novelty tree and popular here), and all 3 were noticeably smaller. Maybe they were the last 3 and the smallest of their stock. But, it's doing very well, just a wee bit smaller than all the other stone fruits. They are defintely leafing out nicely, just smaller. Interesting that my cherry trees are kind of monsterous compared to all the other stone fruits! Wow. And, it sounds like the nursery is really trying to make amends. And your suggestion to them is a good one - offer a larger premium tree with an explanation of why it is more expensive due to the increased shipping charges. Patty S.

Kay, Jerry Nettles will be a lot better next year. This is the 2nd year for Jerry here, & it has been one of my best bloomers this year. I'm giving Cherry Cheeks & Better Believe it another chance. I should have taken them out before, they've both bloomed only once in 4 years. Cherry cheeks did have "1" scape this year which of course out of all the daylilies in this area, was the one I knocked off accidentally. I haven't tried moving them, but I'm going to give it a try & move in September. Anyone else would have gotten rid of them, but I've a large yard so I keep hoping. I remember really liking the blooms the one time they bloomed.

Cody, Wanted to touch on the subject of trading...first so sorry to hear you got burned on the dahlia's as I have had the same problem this year. I made a trade for dahlia's for daylilies and the dahlias I got where dried up and still have not done anything. I am hoping they will but so far nothing. I am not good at growing dahlia's so it could be me. I have had some awesome trades this year. The worst one I have sent this year was to Joey as when I walked into the garden the morning I dug his things I almost broke my leg from the trench I steped into unknowningly. When I started moving the mulch back and digging every plant had been chewed up. It took less that 24 hours to hit several drug stores and buy all the caster oil I could get my hands on and I soaked the ground all over. Had some really pretty and shiny plants. Now back to what I was going to say. I sent several trades that where pretty big back in the fall and got tiny sickly plants in exchange. I swore I was not going to trade with anyone again...then spring fever hit and I made a trade that went beautifully so I did a few others. I have been super pleased but I have also been pretty careful as to who I trade with. I have met some great people and have gotten some plants that I can not find around here and the mail order thing has been very disappointing to me so I have taken some chances. I look at it like this...if you burn me once you will never get a second chance to do it again. As I said in the above post I got three boxes of plants in today and I could not be more pleased in the boxes I got. Carols was awesome, besides Carols I made a trade with a guy in NC for some sedums and a few other things, well here is what he sent me Sedum 'Carmen' x1 Sedum 'Neon' x2 *Caryopteris 'Worcester Gold' x1 *Physocarpus 'Diablo' - ninebark x1 Sedum 'Kamschaticum variegatum' x2 Centranthus Ruber 'Jupiter's Beard' x2 Stachys Byzantia 'Helen von Steine' x 2 The box weighed 14 pounds. I would have paid $200 at any nursery around here for the size plants he sent me. He even added a few extra things. I will be trading with him again. The Centranthus Ruber 'Jupiter's Beard' are both sitting in 5 gallon buckets...that is how big they are. The sedums have no growing room at all in the 3 gallon pots I put them in as a temp home till I get the new bed ready. It was completely unbelievable. The other trade I got was for an Orange Flowering Maple and a few Chinese Lanterns. The flowering maple was 3 feet tall and my daughter counted 63 flowers and buds on it and it was still in dirt and looked awesome. It has been a wonderful day in my Neiborhood. Hi, Runninginplace. No, "my" couple had a very popular, long-running HGTV show that appealed to probably young housewives with more scrap shutters and old unmatched furniture than money. You'd recognize their name. I just felt their eager audience deserved much better quality design suggestions. In their hands a $50 one-hour project never looked like anything more. I have to admit, I enjoy the Novogratzs' creations, if not all. Some of the stuff they pick up on their blitzes through secondhand shops is *incredibly* ugly, yet they manage to combine all this stuff into cohesive wholes that are far more than their parts. I couldn't possibly turn them loose on my own home, no matter how in need it is, but they are certainly very competent and talented designers. I have the same sort of different viewpoint regarding Newdawn's example of an awful room. I personally OD on bright pinks in approximately a single glance ("awful" color for me), but that's a nice room. And it obviously belongs to someone who can afford to redo any time she or he feels like picking up the phone. In any case, what we find "awful" because we don't like it (that peculiar portrait) and what's awful because it's bad design (fire hazard mess on sorority wall) are two totally different things.

Here's the funny story about Crotchless Panties. Curt Hanson had several of his daylily names rejected by the registrar for inane reasons. So he put that name on one as a smarta^^ comeback,thinking it would surely be rejected. But it wasn't.

How funny Debra. I guess they just want a name that grabs attention. I've thought some names were odd, or sometimes just too dang long. Like A moose fishing in a pond on Monday & that series.

Actually I think 'Crotchless Panties' is by Pam Erickson is you look it up! She had that name suggested to her by the late Ra Hansen.

Curt Hanson did have to "alter" some of the names he submitted for registration,but the names were NOT rejected by the Registrar, as someone stated. ( there is actually a review committee which makes decisions on name selection also) but some of his names were in violation of ICNCP rules, which is the governing body for naming not just daylilies but all species.

There's a really pretty one named ALMOST LEGAL but it conjured up an innocent 17 year old girl being ogled (sp?) by some greasy man twice her age.

Pam Erickson also came out with Bare it All and a few others that could fit in this category. I think Crotchless Panties takes the cake though.

Sorry about my mistake. Curt has several with panties in the title. I'll have to try to remember which one goes with that story. Thanks Floota for correcting my mistake. I should have double-checked the hybridizer on Crotchless Panties before posting that story.

I heard Curt Hanson tell the story of his raunchy names at a Northern Mecca event a couple of years ago. I'm sure he embellished the story when he told it to make it more interesting. It seems to me, it started with his getting the names Pantie Raid and Performance Anxiety accepted, which led up to 2005, the year of his most raunchy names: Arrogant Bas****, Booty Call and Don't Touch Me There.

Forgive me for my earlier Alzheimer moment.

Heh heh heh! I may have to do a naughty, dirty bed sometime in the future. I already have a few hostas with naughty names, Striptease, Hanky Panky and Kiwi Full Monty to name a few. There's a hosta called Outhouse Delight, but I don't know about getting that one. lol!

I just had to chime in and say that I think CROTCHLESS PANTIES is the worst I've heard. The image that conjures just makes me have to know what the daylily looks like.

With that said, until I heard of CP, I thought A MOOSE FISHING ON A POND ON MONDAY was the worst name possible. I need to check out some of the others too. Like VERICOSE VEINS.

I just bought one at the Bachman's called "Butt Ugly" ... it has a really interesting color. Not ugly at all, to me.

It sounds like some of you are going to have or already do have(?) pretty large naughty name daylily beds!
I think my worst is Klautu Barada Nikto a Bachmann intro that I got this year. It is just such a mouthful. I have been using it's pollen and when my husband asks what I am using I just say - Oh you know!
Dan explains the name on the latest Daylily addict video - its named after some alien or something in some sci-fi movie or show. These men can sure come up with some doozies. It doesn't sound like they worry that certain names might not be condusive to sales!

I've been looking for one called Weber's Litterbox!!! It's for my cat themed bed. I'm not even sure what it looks like, but it sure would be a conversation piece!!! LOL!

All the naughty name bed ideas are too funny. How about Forbidden Desire, Silk Stockings and Her Best Bloomers.

This is fun.
