Plumeria not blooming - too late?

For our plumeria pros:

I have several, some I even started from seed, and most are going to bloom this year. But I have a couple that have never bloomed. They are both 3 feet tall, but just the single stalk and they don't show any signs of blooming this year either. Are some just born sterile or am I doing something wrong. All get about the same amount of sunlight (filtered through patio screen), sporadic watering and sporadic feeding.

Is there any chance I can shock them into blooming yet this year? What would you recommend? I heard recently (from who? Laura?) that a shot of epsom salts would help. How much? How often? Would a 'bloom buster' type fertilizer help?

I recently moved this tall guy (on the left towards the back) out of the patio hoping a little more direct sunlight would help trigger blooming. Unfortunately now he only gets morning sun.

Kate, here in Zone 10, my Plumies are just going into bud stage. My neighbor across the street has her Aztek Gold in full bloom, yet mine are still budding. don't know what to tell you other than to be patient! I have 2 wine NOID plumies and an Aztek Gold for you and one for you neighbor. See you ar ricky-ricky-ricky's!

Kate, what Cindee said, lol. I've still got mostly sticks. I had a couple of seedlings, that all bloomed by their 2nd summer but they were in the ground. The first one to bloom (and still my best bloomer) is the one that is in the driest, hottest location.

I'm also experimenting and am water rooting some plummie cuttings and I saw some nice nubbies on a couple of them (I guess it's working). I've got a couple of different rainbows (no id's) and some pinks, some yellow if you want 'em.

Nell, you have so many butterflies visit, don't you? We have a few, but it seems like we would see more than we do. I haven't seen tiger swallowtails in a few years here. :( I have seen a few other swallowtails this year though. -Sharon

Google 'Intense Rainbow' or 'Katie Moragne'. I think it's closer to one of those. I'll attach a shot of my Jeannie in warmer weather. Note that the yellow is surrounded by red/hot pink. But really, there are so many cultivars nowdays. Hopefully someone else can give you ideas about what it is. Can't remember, does it have a scent? It sure is a nice combo of colors! Another inflo I've been waiting for for a couple of months, the only inflo I had on my J105 this year. It was suffering from underpotting last year and has spent all season getting established where I planted it in the ground and finally started blooming on one inflo the past week, pictures are from November 12. There are three other inflos on the same tree doing the same late season tease, but next year should be great :)

I grew a pair of passionfruit vines (Passiflora edulis) from seed and set them out this spring. They quickly covered a trellis but didn't bloom. I was debating cutting them back and bringing them indoors for winter, but now I see flower buds developing at the very tip of the vines. Our first frost will be in a few weeks, maybe sooner. Should I (1) disentangle the whole vine from the trellis and bring it in, or (2) cut the vine back, bring it in and hope it blooms again? The second option will save much-needed indoor space. Helen, the Rainbow Plumie and the Pink NOID with orange center you gave me are just coming out of hibernation with new leaves and buds. They were so beautiful last year, I can't wait for them to bloom this year.

OK OK I'll give this patience thing a try and see if it works for me, but it doesn't sound like much fun.

I always heard they won't bloom until they "split", which means the trunk gets three branches from the top. My pink one blooms much later than the yellows and whites down the street. I think some varieties bloom later than others.

I have Miami Rose and Aztec Gold blooming. I have four others setting blooms: another Miami Rose and an Unknown White, the others will be surprise. : )

I use granular fert (Bloom Booster) and I lightly fertilize with regular fert every time I water.

I have to say that my plummies in full sun bloom way more often than my poor guy that lives in the shade. I would say to not give up! I had some sticks that I planted and the tops rotted off, but a close inspection reveals that they may still be alive they have a few "bumps" coming up on the sides!

I have a quick question. (i have been absent for a while but am starting to lurk again) I have my plumeria In a moderatley moist spot with sun. Should I move it to a drier location? Also is this a bad time to move them?

Starting at the front of the house with all sorts of light conditions, here's my 6 largest-all bloom age going around the perimeter of the house. All are in different stages of leafing and blooming.

I had Kat/Butterflygardener look at them when she was here this week (fun!!!) and she agreed some of mine are not getting enough sun. Looks like I'll have to get my paving stone project done so I have a better place for the plummies. Still not sure about putting them in the ground but I will move the pots.

Leave Plumies in the their pot and plant. I did this in Apopka, because of the frosts we would get and they go dormant. I could pull out easily and store in the garage. Yes, more sun the better.
