Yeah, I was going to say gophers before raise beat me to it. Birds do not usually bother plants that tall, insects probably could not have done it (unless it was a plague of grasshoppers like those that are beginning to attack things here in Texas now) and deer would probably have eaten more and left some tracks or other sign of their presence, I think. They do make some gopher traps, or perhaps some moth balls down that hole might send him packing. You could probably dig them up and dispose of them later when the problem has passed. Good luck in figuring it out, hope that you can get the rest of your corn to grow and produce. Once is gets nearly ready to pick, crows, squirrels, deer, wild hogs or some other things will probably want to help you harvest it. Bill P.

That's how it's been for the last 6-8 weeks or so tedp2. We can see the rain clouds a few miles away all around us, hear the thunder and actually see the sheets of rain pouring to the ground off in the distance yet the sky above our heads would be clear and the sun beating down that 95 degree heat. whats the point of using organic solutions.. if you just willy nilly keep drenching the poor plant repeatedly .. its pollution.. if you apply a cure .. TO AN UNIDENTIFIED PROBLEM... i dont care if its organic pollution.. or chemical pollution .. what is the plant.. why is it potted.. when was it last re-potted .... and how long did it dry out for .. was it properly hardened off before being put in sun.. and where are you ken

Your top pic looks like a deep intrusion which may have ruined the interior. Probably wise to remove it and cut it open to find the culprit, a borer type pest such as pickle worm as mentioned by Rodney is most likely. If your tomato plants are still relatively young and the black spots are on the bottom of your first tomatoes it could be BER, Blossom End Rot. A pic would be helpful.
