Oh those pinks in the Asian Lilies! I hope all the Daylilies I picked with the hope of true pinks are at least close. Your daylily beds look lush and full. How far apart do you plant your Dls? Are they close from increase or close planting? Looking forward to future shots of these beds. Clump shots are my favorites. Thanks for the preview.

That daylily bed in the first picture was put in last year so it can't be close from too much increase. Everyone tells me that I plant my daylilies too close. Next spring going to be doing some major dividing from my first batches planted in 2007.

Nothing new for me. I planted my shrubs too close, my roses too close and I am sure everything else too close also. I don't care as everything looks good. I just prune every spring and with the daylilies going to have to divide sooner rather than later.

Everything looks wonderful. I tend to plant close also, I may have to divide more often, but I don't have to weed as much.

You've got the most beautiful roses Rita....I envy you being able to grow them. The lilies are nice also...can't wait to see all those dl blooms of yours this season. :)

Wonderful garden shots. I know the gardens looks even better in person. The Asiatic lilies look so good inbetween the daylilies. I can't grow them here - I have too many voles who love to eat bulbs. It will be nice to see pictures when the dl's start blooming.

I had the rose crazies long before the daylily crazies so I have been working on the roses longer. The bulb lily crazies are working out well, should add lots of color around the garden. Plus to my mind the lilies look good planted near the roses and daylilies.

Very beautiful Rita. You have put a lot of thought and work in your beds and it shows. Now wait until the daylilies peak then you will have enough color for the state of New York... Thank you for sharing your gardens with us...Ellie

I also envy your beautiful floribunda roses. That yellow one is special. I just couldn't deal with the Japanese beetles that devoured my roses, so I got rid of them. Lucky you!

Your gardens are wonderful and inspiring, I planted more bulb lilies after seeing your beds, you mentioned somewhere that you tend to plant close, but so do I, the full look is great, and I also move whatever needs to be moved, all the time, thats part of the adventure, Looking forward to seeing all your bloom, I hope your neighbors know just how lucky they are to have all that beauty so close.

I plant closely for two reasons-

#1- I like the way things look in a riot of color. None of this one bloom here and there look for me.

#2- I don't have the room here to plant everything I would like and spread out. Smaller spaces have to give me everthing I want and that means plant close.

Its not just my daylilies. My roses break every rule in the book, or I should say my way of planting with the spacing so close that they grow together and intermingle with each other when blooming. Makes for a riot of color and I have learned how to do this by staying away from roses that have to spraul and take up too much room. I just don't grow them.
