The yellow jackets are the only real aggressive types. I don't use bug sprays, the kill good bugs too. Just hit their nests with a shot of water when I see it. I tend to get mud daubers (sp?) which are pretty docile. The water sends them packing most times. I don't mind them so much as they are pollinators for the garden.

You can Google homemade wasp traps if you're feeling crafty. There are glass ones available that look better. I have never used them. I'm a "spray the nest" gardener.

I am at risk for anaphylactic shock from wasps. So, to me, the only good wasp is a dead wasp unless it's one that lives in my neighbor's yard and never crosses into mine.

Making nests under over-hanging leaves and palm branches will get you a shot from the can of Raid.

They seem to be all the place right now and it's freaking me out. Maybe it's the catapillars from the oaks driving them into hunting mode?
