few blooms on a Northern Lights azalea
Comments (2)Laura; Could it be that this "Golden Lights" , or "Mandarin Lights" is a deep shade, thus summer/fall growth of next year's primordia is low, thus the lack of bloom. Does it get cold or is your winter season now much shorter than before you planted/transplanted these "cold-hardy" azaleas. With you being in zone 8 , there are copiuous amount of varities besides the "nORTHERN lIGHTS " series that maybe, or are more suitable for your climate. There is nothing wrong with having the "LiGHTS" , But it seems kind of odd - zone 2-4 plants in a "banana belt". Maybe others can chime in with thier successes with "Lights" in much warmer environment's similar to your's . I am curious about this - as some threads reveal that gardners in the South and Southwest have problems with growing Kanphill, or Exbury series of Azaleas during thier very hot summers. good luck and keep posting....See MoreWhere to buy Northern Lights azaleas near Montreal?
Comments (3)I wouldn't think they'd be too hard to find, the last couple of years I do recall even walmart or Cdn tire carrying them in their seasonal garden centres. Or, call a few nurseries and see if they will be carrying them this spring....See MoreDoes Anyone Grow Tropicals in Northern States?
Comments (13)qbirdy, Ooooo, Brugs and Euphorbias, love 'em! I got several new brugs this winter; 'Charles Grimaldi', (to replace the one I killed), 'Sunray', Yellowtail (not a variety name), Golden (not a variety name), 'Sunset' (a variegated), and a triple orange one that I forget the name of. And Euphorbias!...I went through an addiction to euphorbias a few years back and now have quite a collection. I do that every once in a while with different plant species like Hoyas, Orchids, Citrus, Orchid Cactus, or Bromeliads, and plant catagories like scented plants, vines, herbs, succulents, and water plants. Frankly, I'm a sucker for most any plant. Kathy >^..^...See MoreItalian Cypress Trees Can Grow Successfully in Salt Lake City, Ut
Comments (6)Joann, we would love to see pictures of your cypress trees! also, if i am correct, the upper elevations can be slightly warmer during cold snaps for two reasons- the cold wind tends to whip through the valley, while the mountainsides and hillsides are more protected. Secondly, the colder air settles down lower in the valley (slightly). temperatures where we live in bluffdale (near the jordan) are usually a degree cooler. ps, does anyone know how to subscribe to threads, or access my recently viewed/written posts? (as in other forums)...See MoreFrozeBudd_z3/4
