Hi Fallon,

Thanks for Selecting one of my photos of a bog garden I designed in Massachusetts.

I just want to mention that I used two different varieties of Japanese sweet flag Acorus gramineus - (ogon and variegatus) to create the "crop circles" surrounding a mass of fantasia hybiscus flowers in the middle .

This garden is viewed from the house above and we intentionally designed the circle composition using a yellow colored sweet flag and a variegated sweet flag

The light color circle is the variegated sweet flag and is not that color due to the plants responding to the soil.

The soil is muck and is almost always wet.

Just want to make sure your readers are aware that all the plants in this lower garden were selected for this soil.

Houzz,

You, and other contributors, mention soil composition a lot, I haven't read all of the links. But I haven't seen mentioned a way of actually determining the percentages of sand, silt, and clay. It is so simple to do that anyone can do it. Would you like a detailed comment about actually doing a soil composition test?

I would love to know the percentages of sand, silt, and clay of my soil, Gwill. Could you do a basic explanation for those of us like me who are a bit clueless? Thanks.
