Daylilies from the past two days

Antique Rose. This is the first flower for me. I planted it last year but it did not bloom.

Shiloam Double Classic being double for me for a change. Usually they open single here.

FRANCOIS VERHAERT. Mostly its flowers do not open for me. Out of the ten or so blooms I have had on it this year, this is the only fully open flower so of course I took a picture.

This is what FRANCOIS VERHAERT usually looks like around here. Very dissapointing.

This is what AWESOME BLOSSOM looks like for me. Last year it bloomed like this too. Not one of the flowers gets open. It has a budcount of 4 or 5 and the color is usually muddy to boot.

Little Light of Mine is gorgeous! I think daylilies from northern growers and Maryott are your best bets for flawless openers. I find I'm getting more and more impatient with daylilies that don't open till noon or open blotchy.

My best bud counts this year were not on those pricey Stamiles. They were on two Reckamp-Klehm cultivars: Harvest Moth (20 buds and 5-way branching) and Techny Peace (28 buds and 4-way branching). Last Snowflake, which Stamile gets 65 buds on, I only got 13 per scape. Don't get me wrong - I dearly love and worship each of those LS blooms - just wish there were at least 20 buds. RICTER, another Stamile with a purposed bud count of more than 40, has 8-9 buds per scape. Those Stamile cultivars and most of my other Southern-bred daylilies detested my drought conditions. Reckamp-Klehms and Curt Hanson cultivars are almost the only ones showing any lateral branching this year.

Chris, Yes that is the FFO on that fan of SANFORD INTERMEZZO, so I think that it will get better and better as bloom continues. VOODOO MAGIC is an awesome flower. I planted 2 individual fans of it here in my garden in early May. Even the FFO was stunning. I can't give you any info regarding increase, but would highly recommend it on just the beauty and size of the flower. Linda

I like Juliana Lynn, Bold Tiger lookalike, and Voila Francois the most. Funny pic of Zeke :) Our cats don't drink from watering cans because I don't keep water in them, but they have their dish of the same form (cut plastic bottle). One cat loves to lick the hose (it's leaking a little). Beautufil lily and nice pic of the butterfly! I don't see them around this summer.

Your Barney looks great. Mine finally had a nice flower today and I forgot to get a picture. I guess I'm going to have to break down and spray for thrips before next years blooms. All so beautiful...esp your Lady of Shalott! Mine is in the ground now, and bouncing back from what seems to have been a difficult delivery. Hope it's as lovely as yours when it's grown up.

Hi Rita,

I would not give up on Francois Verhaert yet. The one good bloom was magnificent. Once it settles in the number of good openers and total blooms should go up.

Siloam Double Classic blooms single for me the first two weeks and then settles in to blooming double.

My best budcounts last year were on South Seas and Frans Hals. Frans Hals had one scape with 35 buds and South Seas averaged about 25.

Francois Verhaert might be worth waiting for, that is a perfect bloom. S. Double Classic bloomed the first time for me this year (after 2 years!), its first bloom was single so I thought it was the wrong plant, but after that every bloom was absolutely picture perfect. I was very pleased with it this year. Little Light of mine is very nice.

Your flowers are really nice. My favorites are the Little Light Of Mine, Red Rampage and Lava Flow or is that Oktoberfest?

It is LAVA FLOW. When I was doing the names for the jpegs to put it on the computer, I goofed and put Oktoberfest. But its LAVA FLOW.

Mostly people seem to agree that I should have patience with FRANCOIS VERHAERT. Maybe I will just move it next spring into the relocation garden and put something in its place there. Will see.

Antique Rose is beautiful! I just planted mine this Spring - hope it blooms for me and looks at good as yours!

FRANCOIS VERHAERT opens beautifully for me. Do you have yours planted in plenty of sun?

I love Little Light of Mine and Red Rampage, but the one I'm adding to my list is Lava Flow (so very unique!)

How tall is the foliage and scapes for Little Light of Mine get for you? Can I ask where you purchased from?

Its from Karrol Emerich of Springwood Gardens. It is just newly planted this spring so I don't know how tall exactly it will be in my garden.
