Patterned eyes, cicadas and Gypsy cats

There were five or six daylilies with patterned eyes open today, but I'll just post the best three here. I'm still seeing thrip damage, especially on the dark purples. And the cicadas are still with us, as you'll see in a photo.

MYSTIC MARINER - Great color in the eyezone early this morning. The camera made it more saturated than it really was.

AZTEC HEADDRESS is a first-time bloomer in my garden. I doubt that I will get the intricate patterning on this one because it so blazing hot.

JAMAICAN LOVE was making a big splash today.

BUSY EAGER BEAVER had its ffo with four blooms, but two of them were badly splotched by thrips.

Oh those eyes are beautiful, Debra. that's a beautiful purple on Mystic Mariner. I love the red On Busy eager Beaver. The cats are adorable!

Beautiful photos I can't pick a favorite, well maybe I can it would have to go to Columbus and Midnight Sammie.

Woo woo to LADY WU. I've been in love with every one of David's newer doubles the few times I've seen them in gardens. When I see pics like the one of your LADY WU, I'm tempted to try a few of them. I have a really nice microclimate in a bed next to the house, and I think they might do pretty well there. I hadn't realized that LAST SNOWFLAKE is supposed to be a slow increaser. I don't have too many fans of it, but I thought that's because I'd sited it in a bed that's a little too hot and dry. As an experiment, I may move it this fall to a better spot & see how it does going forward. I now want both STEALTH BOMBER and SWEET PRAIRIE WIND. I really like that kind of color combo!

Diggin, I appreciated the photo and the link even though I thought it was grooooooooooss, but now I'm confused, I thought the article eluded to them being tent caterpillers, well what ever those are, they are the ones we have been envaded by. To give those of you who might not know where Otis is an idea, It is situated on the cape between Falmouth and Sandwich. I agree with Chelone that its all part the ecology, however the french guy that brought them here to start with was a loose cannon trying to pass his hobby (a get rich quick scheme in the silk business)as science, He left the country before they exploded into the voracious pest he knew them to be!!! Well, I removed the mesh laundry bag from my dwarf crape myrtle last night. I had the mesh laundry bag supported on 4 bamboo stakes stuck into the soil of the fabric grow bag the tree is in. The laundry bag fell about 7" short of the soil, so I had stuffed some plastic needlepoint canvas on its edge into the soil and curled around inside the laundry bag, drawing the bag tightly closed around the needlepoint canvas. It looked like my tree was all enclosed. When I removed the mesh and canvas last night, I found one single cicada wing on the soil in the pot, and a wiggly green caterpillar on top of the soil, which I dispatched at once. Do you think a cicada made its way into the mesh--there was only the one wing--or do you think a bird dropped its cicada treat? Birds do come and perch on pots and stuff on my balcony. How can I tell if there is cicada damage to my little crape myrtle?

Sherry - I hope you get more rain soon. Last year we didn't have any rain at all in May. So far, we've had a bit each week. Last week we only got a quarter inch, and this week there's none in the forecast. I started watering last night. I usually water all during the month of May, but I've been too busy weeding and planting to water. I still haven't gotten to several beds to weed, and weeds are starting to pop up in the very first beds I cleaned out in early March. I give most of my attention to the seedlings, and the registered beds suffer. Debra

I see the cicada, I have them around here in the summer also. The kittens sure have grown into lovely adults. Sammie's fur just glistens.

My daylily favorites are your pattern eyes ones, I love all three. Very favorite is the first MYSTIC MARINER. It just has fantastic color.

I always just love love love your pictures. BUT I love your kitties best. My baby kitties just cannot be replaced, they are so much more precious than any flowers I have. They sit in my lap and purr and give me kisses.

My favorite is Mystic Mariner, even knowing it issaturated. Next is JAMAICAN LOVE, very pretty. Best is the last picture of 2 contented cats.

I like them all but relly like TTT. My kinda dl. The kitties are so pretty, are they molers. That's what I need here but I think the ground is so hard and dry, even the moles are keeping still...We need some RAIN!!! LOL! Ellie

Seems that alot of us that like daylilies love our cats a bunch too. Cats rule....Your daylilies are pretty too. I like the solid white one the best I think...Maryl

I stared and stared at MYSTIC MARINER. Also love WINTER TREASURE and BUSY EAGER BEAVER. And lastly, the kitties are so nice, and I have finally been unable to resist any longer and am going to take one of my niece's new baby kittens in a few weeks.
