Rare Rambling Roses from Anne Belovich's Collection at Vintage
Comments (20)"CapeRoses, here is a long shot - would you happen to know of a resource for Walsh's Jubilee? VG once had a specimen but apparently they lost it." Yes, I had a clone of the VG 'Jubilee' but I lost it. I saw it at the Brooklyn Bot. Garden years ago. "I would also like to find Lady Blanche some day." I believe that I sent a clone to Burling Leong. She propogated the Walsh roses for Anne and usually kept a specimen for herself. She has several of the rare Walsh roses. If she doesn't have it, you can contact me: centifolia at comcast dot net. "Is Bonnie Bell much like America?" The rose in commerce sold as 'America' is different from all of the other Walsh roses in that it is primarily derived from Multiflora rather than Wichurana. That doesn't mean it's wrong, only different. 'Bonnie Belle' has larger flowers and are a darker pink. Comments (6)oh i remember now ... the grn giant poster ... listen.. i have plants on my 'want' lists going on 10 years.. good luck with fulfilling your hearts desires .. lol .. and the bruns is one of them ... girards and probably all the northern grafters are grafting RIGHT NOW .. call around.. maybe you can get one grafted this season ... for spring delivery .. though FRESH GRAFTS [as compared to second year grafts] can be tricky .... new post if you get that far ... i have lost a number of yellow P. a.'s .... it survivability might be a reason you cant find them readily available .... such weak yellows.. have higher grafting failures ... higher life issues when young.. and all of a sudden.. everyone wants it.. and none can be found.. go figure on that ... ken...See MoreWhats your most treasured Conifer?
Comments (5)I love all my conifers. The incense cedar looks especially fabulous right now. Everything is about to burst its buds. The deodars are doing well. The various cultivars of giant sequoias are happy. The coast redwoods are starting to fluff. The cryptomerias are perking up. Varieties of leylands are growing. Western red cedars greening and extending. Pines growing their top candles. Blue atlas cedars elongating, stretching. Norway Spruce buds look almost like flowers, all branches standing at attention, grand fir floofing out. Various threadbranches growing. More, and they all look good except the Omorika that has croaked where everything else also has, some weird dead spot. Bald cypress and dawn redwoods getting buds, dawns earlier. All trunks thickening, branches getting stronger. Great time of year!...See MoreWhat is the smallest conifer in your collection /
Comments (20)here are a few of my littlest of the little. At this point I have no room for anything other than mini's (until something dies). Known as Abies lasiocarpa 'Duflon,' I had a conversation with Don Howse once who thinks it's probably Abies Grandis. All I can say is that it doesn't look like any other of the lasio's in my collection. While we're on the subject of controversy, here is what's known as Picea glauca 'Blue Planet.' Most, myself included think it's actually Picea mariana. What do you guys think of that long shoot to the left? Reversion, or weirdness? I think I'll let it go for a year and see if it clumps up. One of the smallest pines on the block, Pinus nigra 'Pipouniou.' This one's an absolute gem. I may get a centimeter of growth this year at the most -- Pinus parviflora 'Richard Lee.'...See Morepineresin
