Ahhh, to be reminded that patience is a virtue and one I'm having a hard time with! I'm in a new home with no landscaping whatsoever on my postage stamp lot, except what was left naturally. I have 4 mature trees in the back and several on one corner in the front. After much ado and a neighbor intervening, my builder had the ridiculous side hill removed and put back to the original slope easement. Now I am beginning the process of hardscape, but I couldn't wait and did plant a compact Stella cherry near the front and a 4-in-1 apple in the back (it'll get Gala, Fuji, Early Red and Granny Smith apples eventually). I do face the woods, so at least I get to look at that while I do the landscaping!

I loved this article. What I can't find mentioned and many readers might want to know is conifers are not appetizing to deer! Beautiful gardens and gave me much to ponder. Thank you for a wonderful article.
