Your Favorite WILD Colored Roses?
Comments (14)Definitely my favorite wild colored rose is Red Intuition, a stunning red-on-red striped florist rose I bought from Wisconsin Roses. You have to get on a waiting list for this one, but its worth it. Medium sized blooms but of great form, very long-lasting, and prolific. Healthy and easy to care for, too. So its not fragrant, but Hell, you can't have everything. It surely would not last as long cut if it was very fragrant, too. I love putting in in a vase in my office at work. I get so many people commenting on how it looks too specatuclar to be real. But it is. Others I like that come to mind: the pale yellow strips on black-cherry red of Abra Cadabra and Memphis Music. Unfortunately, my Memphis Music started out producing striped roses then reverted to solid black-red with a little bit of yellow on the petal backs. Still beautiful but not "wild" like the stripes. Also like the big buxom flamIing red/orange/yellow fiery blend of Cary Grant. Just not a very prolific bloomer. I've never tried to grow Purple Tiger; believing the rumors that it lacks vigor and is tempermental, but the intense purple stripes are awesome. I guess I like stripes. I'd love to see that Purple on Gold, though. Wonder if Helpmefind has any photos of it....See MorePutting perennials into dry area with wild daylilies
Comments (5)Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to look up those ones I donÂt know (the pardancandas, belamcandas, euphorbias). I picked up an agastache yesterday (Black Adder): didnÂt know they liked it dry: lucky pick! Do the taller sedums stay upright or do they flop? I have been tempted by Black Jack. I was thinking of perovskia: I like the form, but it gets too big for my main garden: here it might work. I didnÂt know there were smaller ones; like how small? My main garden has mostly pastels with lots of pink: I was thinking about doing a hotter color combo here with oranges and deep blues and purples. Then I could take advantage of all those great fall bloomers that seem to be more orange (gaillardia, helianthus?). I keep looking at this great orange lantana I see in public places: is that an annual or perennial? I have annual lantana in my deck pots but itÂs basically over, whereas this orange one IÂm seeing everywhere is going strong at the end of September. What about grasses? I have never grown any. When I see them in nurseries they all look alike: itÂs hard to tell which one will grow up to look nice in the fall with attractive plumes/ seedheads....See More3700 send a daylily get a daylily 3700
Comments (100)Hi All, Worked in the greenhouse today. Had to spray everything. The aphids are getting bad. Ricky...I can tell you from personal experience it is very difficult to take in a teenager, especially one that the parents are having difficulty dealing with. I don't know that is the case here but I have taken in family members on several occassions and for me it didn't work out. I naively thought if I set ground rules, let them know they were loved, and tried to be involved in what they were doing, and consistent with praise and discipline, that everything would turn out okay. I'm sorry to say that wasn't what happened. But your circumstances may be different. I too praise your desire to help and hope that it does turn out great for your nephew. I ordered from Bluegrass again and they do have a 20% down layaway plan with the rest due in the spring before shippment. They charge $6.00 for the 1st 4 fans (2 DL's)and .25 for every fan after that for shipping. So if you're only planning on ordering 1 or 2 DL's it may not be worthwhile, but after I saw how many daylilies they had at 3.00 each, the shipping was not a problem. Let them know I referred you maybe I'll get a daylily as a bonus. I got a bonus last time I ordered from them, it was their 2004 intro. daylily "Galaxy Explosion". I don't know if they give bonuses with every order or only those over a certain amount. I'm also checking on the links everyone here is giving like Dune Lane and Bayberry Row. Can you tell....I got daylily fever really bad. Jean...is you epiphyllum rick rack? I had 3 different epiphyllum's until we ran out of kerosene in the heater in our greenhouse one night and they froze. If you've got enough can I have a start? I can trade for night blooming cereus (another epiphyllum) or Queens Tears Bromeliad. Both are houseplants here. I'll take photo's if you want. We may have to wait until another warm spell. Its supposed to get cold here again this weekend. I forgot who said they had seeds, I'll check again and e-mail. Anita, Do you have my new e-mail address: soper07@bellsouth.net? Dawn...great photos, I wish I looked like you, I never looked that good, even when I was your age. Thanks for telling bluegrass that I referred you. Happy belated BD. I better get back to checking for free garden plans on the web (Found several good one's). Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll post the links here. Comments (100)Hey ya! I hope everyone had a nice long weekend to enjoy. Beautiful weather here! Sherri, wish I could keep her this size. MaryB, a diagram for you :). Lots more stuff in there not pictured. Brugmansia 'Creamsickle' three blooms on a heat stressed plant and Coleus 'Lava Rose'- my favorite coleus this year. My business is slow as expected when starting out. I have a partial website (go figure?), my license, business cards. Made a bag with my logo on it that I carry around. I have about 6 websites going right now. Enough to pay the business bills. BTW, Gloria I have a bill for you coming your way today :). Love ya, Hottie! CindyO, you are about 350 miles for me, well duh, I guess you already know how far. I would love to come! I can drop my back seat in the Blazer and make lots of room, but I would have to leave the kids with you so I could haul the loot back home. Love that seedling of yours! I just picked the last of the seedpods yesterday. Now we have about 1000 seeds to figure out where to plant. Marea! YAY, a tropical! Diane, got your test email. Debbie, happy B-day! Miss Susan, have you and Dan gone off and got married without us? The Stapelia you sent me last year is about to bloom any day now. I may be cussing you soon :). Anita, your in my thoughts. Deni, if you can read this, you are the most thoughtful and generous soul! ~Canna...See Moretweetypye
