Thanks, I have really been lookiing forward to this program. I don't watch much TV, but this show can actually bring me in out of the garden on a beautiful day. I think a few years back, it was on at 2:30.....or 3, and I planned what I was doing in the garden so I could go in to watch Erica's show.

Oh, I didn't know Erica was supposed to come back to HGTV. I really enjoyed that show. Polly, I enjoyed Kathy Renwald also but Erica highlighted gardens from all over the country vice just in Canada which is where all of Kathy's shows came from. Gardener's Diary was/is my favorite garden show. I miss when sat. actually had GOOD garden shows rather than landscaping makovers. Argh.

We should all email them and complain/plead.

I even forgave that most of the gardens were southern...

I loved Erica's show. HGTV used to be my favorite station to watch until they started changing things so much. I don't even bother checking what's on anymore. I also liked Kitty B.'s decorating show and they took her off too. I don't like any of their decorating shows either. They've went down the tubes in my opinion..

I really liked Erica's show and was disappointed to see that its not aired anymore. I'm so glad I Tivoed a couple of the episodes - around 15 of them. I save them for a Winter day.

Those were my two favorite garden shows, too - Erica and Kathy. I keep an eye open for their return. It seems all the current garden shows are a contest or how-to. Tiresome.

There have been times when people have complained about the lack of gardening shows on HGTV. They say that there just isn't enough viewers interested in them, and that the shows that run longest are the ones people want to see. I guess people want to see landscaping shows (a few of which are not so bad, the one with the young blonde man has had good episodes). I think DYI has more gardening shows. Sure do miss them. Suzi Qualudes has got to go. That show drives me nuts. Anything with a constantly similar presentation...same thing every week drives me crazy for the most part however there are a few decorating shows I like. I LOVE Devine Design - that gal and I have a similar sense of humor. Decorating Cents is another favorite if certain "designers" are on it...and sometimes Country Style features small segments on pretty country gardens.

I use to love HGTV and it was the only reason I had cable for hubby and I aren't big TV watchers.I just got so tired of paying for reruns and short runs of the programs I really liked such as the two mentioned. I'm glad to hear Divine Design is still on...she is a very talented designer and I love her humor, also, GGG! Has been over two years now since we "pulled" the plug on cable and now I have to get my visual fix by book or mag.Sure wish I had taped those programs while I had the chance. Tamara

I hadn't heard that Erica was supposed to start again this summer, but I sure hope they do put her back on. It was my favorite show too, and Kathy. I also love Ground Breakers, mostly to drool over the water features they put in.

I sure am glad too see that others like her so much. And Kathy too, she was my next favorite, a close second. I just find it hard to believe there aren't plenty of us. Sometimes I think the powers that be, put on what they want (for a variety of reasons) and we can deal with it. Polly, a good idea, let's email them. Erica and Kathy were the two best garden shows ever on TV, in my opinion. And sometimes Victory Garden. The hype on HGTV now is not for gardeners--just sensation-hunting reality show lovers. I always wonder if they do any actual research before they make these programming decisions.

I was just bemoaning the lack of good gardening shows the other day. Glad to hear I am not alone in missing them. There is one I kind of like right now called City Gardener and occasionally Weekend Landscaping will have something interesting, but for the most part it's pretty boring stuff. Guess that's why we have to spend so much time on the GW!

I like Rebecca's Garden. Doesn't anyone watch her show? I like seeing the after pictures on Ground Breakers but I don't have 20-60 Thousand dollars for a yard make-over.

I would like to send a message to HGTV regarding Erica and Gardener's Diary. Is there a place on their website that you can do this? I really want her back! I taped some of her shows and watch a few minutes each morning to help get me motivated to get out there in the heat and humidity with my bug spray on and my companion wheelbarrow, tools and gloves. It takes some motivation just to get it all together before I can really even start to work! But I do love her show and want her back........

Someone said that it was back on but when and at what time?? it is now AUGUST 2005 and I have not seen it yet this year. I too, miss it so much. If someone out there knows about this, please email me ASAP. Thanks a lot.

I haven't seen it either, but did enjoy the program. Maybe it's on very early on HGTV.

I tivo Rebecca's Garden and P. Allen Smith, then watch them when I get a chance, usually early afternoon when it's too warm to do much outside.

I went to the HGTV web site and didn't see anything about Erica's show. We didn't miss it...it's not on. Don't know about you guys but enough already with all the garden "make over" shows. Seems like that's all there is. I really enjoyed Erica and Kathy Renwald also. P. Allen Smith is good but I can't seem to figure out when he is on and what channel. I also checked to see if I could e-mail HGTV and didn't see anyway to do that either. Vikki

Let me add that I too miss Erica's show and Kathy's even tho her's was way out of my climate zone - I just love seeing what other people do in their gardners.

As for the "makeover" shows - does anyone else here wonder what those places look like after a year or two - especially the ones with Susie Cuelo(sp))?? So many of them are "cutsie" and not at all practicle for the average gardner. I would LOVE to see them go back after a year and interview the people and see what worked and didn't work. They look GREAT for the camera but we all know as gardners they don't stay that way for long. Just curious

btw - my current favorite is Paul James - although sometimes he can be a little too off the wall with the jokes - also People, Places and Plants

This is the note I just dashed off to HGTV:
"City Gardener" is probably the best gardening show you have on right now, because the host is informed and talks fast. "Spring!" was also good, although a repeat. But many of us gardeners really miss "Gardener's Journal" and "Gardener's Diary" and wish you would bring them back, even if all you have is the old shows to re-run. We would really like to see some good new gardening shows for serious gardeners who do not need to be entertained or have the same thing said over and over or the same flower or whatever shown over and over, as if we weren't paying attention the first time. And please don't waste so much time on cute graphics and titles. There are enough make-over shows -- no real gardener would ever DO that to their garden ! -- but we would like shows with real information and visits to real, established gardens all over the U.S. and the world by hosts who are real gardeners themselves. When I was in England, there were LOTS of gardening shows on TV and many old ones that perhaps could be available to HGTV. Also, please put Penelope Hobhouse's "The Art and Practice of Gardening" on: even though it is ancient, it is the very best garden T.V. series I know of. Thanks for anything you can do!

I would love to see the Penelope Hobhouse shows, never have, but do have her books and love them.

Look for the Hobhouse videos at the library and try an inter-library loan if your library doesn't have them. I've probably watched them ten times each.

I e-mailed HGTV some time back and they wrote me back and said she would be back in January. Erica, if you are out there, put out a DVD. I'll gladly buy it!

I was also under the impression that the show was coming back in July. They may have started shooting new episodes in July which would take some time to actually air. I'm hoping that's the case.

I wrote to HGTV and they wrote back and said that she would be back in 2006, didn't say what month. I hope it's January. It'll sure help me get thru the winter months. Can't wait, in the mean time, I've started a new garden project that will probably take years of work, so it'll take my mind off of it and speed up the wait.

I have emailed HGTV in the past about this issue, but will do so again. I feel the same as you all do. I went to their website and they actually have a list of shows that aren't airing now. I saw several others that I have missed. Such as The Seasoned Gardener and The Winter Gardener. I have become quite unhappy with HGTV as well.

Just sent a letter to HGTV telling them of my former devotion to their network and my disappointment with their current programing. Asked specifically if they could replay the Erica Glasner, Kathy Renwald, and Penelope Hobhouse and/or present new gardening shows in the same vein.

Frankly, I seldom watch HGTV anymore. LOL My husband used to fake "headaches" when he came into the room and HGTV was on.

Yeah what was up with the year old post. When I saw these posts a week ago. I was like these shows are history. Now suddenly I see Erica's back at 7a.m. Unless someone at Gardenweb is psychic. Now if they would only bring back Kathy Renwald I found her so relaxing plus the beautiful gardens she would visit.

Hi everyone! I just found this site and I am with you all about Erica and Kathy... I seriously can't believe they don't have these ladies on HGTV anymore. They are my favorite shows and I am sooooo tired of the fixer upper landscape shows. I want to tour gardens that are complete so I can see and get ideas for my own yard. I took your advice and I e-mailed HGTV and told them I want the ladies back!!! If we all write the show maby we will get some action. Talk to ya soon!

Here, we had the Gardener's Diary on every morning at 8am for awhile, and then they switched it to once a week. Disappointing!

yep - once a week and I TiVo every episode so I can continue to watch them when the show gets pulled off again.....

I just emailed HGTV for more gardening shows. I agree with all the past years comments on the stupid, impractical stuff they have now. Its not about growing, its about looking good. Last year watched one that would only tell you how to take the plant out of the plant pot!-dah????? are gardeners THAT STUPID? Will set my TIVO up to tape so I won't miss. Don't know how I can live without TIVO. I haven't watched a commerical in 3 years. I have a dual channel in Liv Rom, and single in bedroom. There is so much junk on TV for the older crowd, and anything resembling intellegent there is 10 minutes of comericals for a half hour show, and 20 minutes for an hour show. When are they going to get the message that those that can afford it are running to TIVO. There is also something new that eliminates the commericals automatically--then what will they turn to? Back to gardening, this is depressing me! Just planted some late sunflowers for fall color after cutting back alot of the periennals that have stopped bloom. We finally have had nearlly a week of rain off and on to revive everything including weeds! I timed it just right and planted 4 shrubs that I was holding for the right time, and they are now nicely soaked for a week. Can't believe the number of gardeners there are here at the forums, so we can influence what is on TV!
