My SRG perennials haven't even been in the ground a full week and they are really taking off! I'm SO glad I went ahead and ordered from them. I placed a small order back in the spring which is why I got the email notification of the fall 75% off sale. I shouldn't have even looked but when I caved in, I purposely bought plants that don't produce seed/can't be winter sown or that I thought would either be difficult to grow from seed or else take too long to mature & bloom (i.e., hellebore). The variegated Jacob's Ladder 'Touch of Class' is planted right next to my hosta with the same name! I got the hosta in a trade from just1morehosta/cAROL. Hakonechloa has been on my 'Want' list for several years but I've yet to find it at a reasonable price no matter what time of year I look for it. It wasn't on sale from SRG or I'd have added it to my order. It was sold out at an 'end of season' sale I went to locally. Hazzard's doesn't sell seeds which leads me to think it has to be propagated vegetatively.

I'm late to the game, but wanted to share an idea we're doing this year. We're starting some local, neighborhood-run produce markets. They're technically grey-market - someone will turn a garage or shed into a produce stand. Anyone can drop produce by, and they list inventory on a whiteboard. Payments are handled through Venmo, so shoppers pay growers directly through a mobile app. It's a grassroots thing meant for neighborhoods, but I think if you had a handful of these going in town, a professional growers could drop off a steady supply of produce to each one. The folks who host it get to keep any produce unsold after a couple of days, so there are definite benefits for them. Rina, will have to add Hope to the list, there's still unfilled space on the retaining wall. Josephine, It took me a while to get to them, but here are the photos. Half and Half, Curly Fries, Mighty Mouse, and Pure Heart ( whose spelling I butchered above ). The light colored thing dangling down is a sporting bit of vinca major. I potted it up hoping it stays that color.

Also for you capital district gardeners, Lowes in Saratoga has a small selection of perennials for $1. Unfortunately most looked pretty sad. I ended up picking up 3 blue scabiosa (pincushion flower) plants. Although they also looked kind've neglected, they looked healthier than the rest. I'll baby them this fall and I'll be hoping for healthy new shoots when they come up next spring! I can't really go wrong for my total investment of $3.00 ~ can I?! :o) adkmountaingirl Wilton, NY
