Which one of these should I get for my One gawdy daylily?

Okay, so I know I'm definitely getting Arctic Lace and Beautiful Edgings. I've never liked orange before, but I've come across a few lately that have caught my attention. Since most of my daylilies are in the pink family I've decided I want a gawdy one that I can see from across the yard, whether it's orange or another color. Here's a few that I like from the pictures. Any that you would highly recommend or not recommend. It needs to hold up fairly good in the heat.

My vote goes for Halloween Hocus Pocus!. I have seen it as a clump before it was registered and it was very gawdy!

I'd go for Volcano Queen. If you don't have any oranges, this one might change your mind about the color.

Ok thank you for your suggestions!! I really appreciate it. I didn't think about this before, but should I pick them according to their height too? Say if I have 3-4 lined up like Bill's front yard... I would like to pick the ones that have similar height. Or is that a moot point since I can always prune them to the desired height? I'm liking the idea of lining them up to separate the property line on the right side... then put the rocks like Bill did. That's very pretty. But then what do I do w/ the rest of the space next to it? Can I plant other flowers like roses, hydrangeas or something? I really don't want to add grass in that small space. I'll try to upload a diagram so you can see it. Any suggestions for some companion flowering plants near my plumies? Thanks!

Water Heater- which one should I buy?

for 2 I would say stay with at least a 50 gal electric. and about the split power rate thing I had that at my last house that was all electric. the off peak rate was 8pm to 8am and all day on weekends. the house had a time of day meter and the water heater was controled by a small box next to it that was wired to the meter. it had an overide so if you needed more water during peak time you could get more. If you bathe and do your washing in the mornings and eveinings mostly your fine the tank will store the water and it will be plenty to wash your hands or fill a sink with dish water. The problem is when more than one or two wants to shower outside of the off peak time when the heater is on or you want to do laundry. I had a 50 gal bradford-white with 3 in the house, I would always run out early in the evening when washing and all happened before 8pm. now I have gas, I love the way it recovers faster and no on/off-peak rates.

Tinker_2006, I think the dissonance I'm experiencing is because of the highly patterned bedskirt. I think it's beautiful, but it seems like it calls out for an unpatterned comforter or duvet so that you get that soft, smooth lofted look contrasting with the busily patterned bedskirt. You could repeat the eyelet with trim on pillow shams. Also, I like a more decadent look that includes Euro pillows, but that's just personal preference. If I can, later I will try to find some pictures showing what I mean.

I have the same set-up and that's the best arrangement for a small room. I like having the windows clear for accessibility and to enjoy a beautiful unobstructed window. In your case the large white chair is blocking the window quite a bit. I think two white slip-covered pieces are too bulky for the size of the room. It looks like it could be a comfy bedroom chair though, so I'd replace it with a small non-upholstered chair that will also work when you install the built-ins. I like your table lamps and would keep them.

I would go HALLOWEEN HOCUS POCUS or OPEN MY EYES. I don't have either, but both have excellent reputations. If you don't really like orange, go with OPEN MY EYES. It might be easier on your eyes. I'm glad you're getting ARCTIC LACE. It will go great with your pinks!

The only one I have on your list is All Fired Up. I like it because it has lots of blooms, increases well and is very affordable.

I only have All Fired Up and Open My Eyes from your list. I'm waiting on OME to bloom, so haven't had it long enough to tell you much! Like them both! Very nice pictures!

Kathy - All Fired Up is definitely a stunner also. This is going to be tough.

Happy Halloween has the best branching and budcount (5-way branching and 40 buds), a 5-inch bloom and reblooms. Halloween Trick has a slighly larger bloom at 5.5 inches, a thicker edge, 4-way branching and 35 buds for scape, but does not rebloom. Halloween Hocus Pocus has the same size flower, reblooms, and is supposed well-branched and budded. I couldn't find exact counts on buds and branching for it. They all sound good. I'd go with the least expensive one. I would be suspicious of a seller starting the bidding at $15. All I can say is, you get what you pay for. In my opinion, you might get fans the size of a pencil. You should buy from a reputable seller. I would avoid Christy's this year because she is not personally handling the orders. Marietta and Patron are good. Did you check their prices?

Debra - Oh gosh, you just gave me another to consider. I mentioned Halloween Masquerade before, but not Happy Halloween. Since my yard is small, I always try to buy rembloomers so I may cross Halloween Trick off my list. I know I said I only wanted one gawdy, but I think I'm going to get OPEN MY EYES and one of the HALLOWEENS.

Why isn't Christy handling the orders this year?

Well, this isn't a gaudy orange but a beautiful burnt orange that shines. I've had more people stop and ask me what this one was then any other so far. It has a sophisticated layering of colors that doesn't bleach out in the sun. I haven't downloaded my pics yet, but this one from Tinkers almost captures it's colors:

Interesting that you should say that - you have a good eye. This daylily is next to some pink roses and various other pink flowering plants. Hadn't really thought of it, but the color of SMA does "punch up" the combination of the pinks. Could be why the passersby are so complimentary. Thanks for seeing that.

LOL Laurie, I'll have to post pics of my gaudies when they bloom later this summer. My back yard is planted in hot colors; many of the daylilies are a real poke in the eye. Here's my favorite from last year:
