Siam Ruby Bananas are here

I posted this in Lisa's thread this morning, but just to get your attention...

Well, Lisa just dropped off 52 pretty banana plants.

Right now they're in little liner peat pots with roots poking out the bottoms.

They look very healthy!

Still green, but they're supposed to turn red when they reach 12" tall. Also the more sun they get, the redder the leaves will be.

I'll get them potted up into small pots and they'll be ready for distribution.

For now I'll keep them shaded, since they're greenhouse grown. And of course sheltered from any cold or wind.

As far as $$, that's Lisa's department.

And I don't know who's keeping track of who wants how many.

My babysitting rates are very reasonable, unless yours gets too rowdy. LOL!

You all can come by my place to get 'em or someone can pick up a bunch to distribute, or wait for a trade party.

I'll put name tags on them if you let me know.

I want 2, so that leaves 50 available.

Let's solidify the list so nobody gets shorted.

I see some folks are getting theirs with the Tampa group, so there should be plenty for everyone.

Wanda, thank you. I think at least one will be yours.

Veronika, your Brazilian Red Cloak is beautiful. If you come by to pick some up, don't let me forget to give it to you.

OK, I'm off to get some potting soil.

Holly Cow guys, I really appreciate the offer. I would like to trade you a Plumeria if your interested. Or I have seeds, orange cosmos and double blue pea vine.

Wow yours is beautiful! You must be doing something right. I lost mine because the heat went out in the greenhouse on a really cold night. They do seem to be pretty cold sensitive, much more than the other reddish ones like Zebrina and the Maurelli. I think the Siam Ruby is much prettier though :) A few years ago there were Siam Ruby's at one of our local home depots in 3 gallon pots. None to be found this year though. ~SJN

we were all discussing this on bananas.org and no one has seen one yet or can find a picture of one on the 'net. maybe you'll be the first. Or maybe I will...lol...mine is about 6 feet tall with three pups.

I handwatered mine for months and months, every single day, Katkin. The ones in the ground just plain died, without growing an INCH. The ones in the big pots grew to about 2 feet, each have about 3 leaves, and that's that. And they would have died over the winter, for sure, if I hadn't brought them in. This isn't a very hardy banana, I'm guessing. I don't have a lot of luck with bananas, but I HAVE had some that did well. This wasn't one of them. My red & green "variegated" ornamental one (some musa or other) did much better. Marcia

David and Lisa, I see were several people are still wanting to be added to the list, so use mine for them. I got one at a plant sale. But if you can't get rid of it, just let me know and I'll pay for it, since I ordered it. :o)

I can come pick mine up either not in Jan or then in March. We will not be around in Feb. Let me know, what works better for you.

Great to hear they got there so quickly and in good shape.
I've brought the flats in the last 2 nights because it's been chilly. I noticed today when I brought them outside for some R&R that there's more red color in the leaves and stems already! These are going to be some pretty plants!

Got mine too!! YIPPEE!! Thanks again, David! I am wondering, are they ready to go to my banana patch or should I pot them up and keep them in a warmer place for a while?
