Mine isn't blooming yet and I can't seem to locate a photo from last year. But my pick for big and red would be All American Chief.

CIMARRON ROSE is almost red, 6 inches.

SANTA's LITTLE HELPER would be my top pick. It isn't big at 4 1/2 inches or so, but it is very vigorous and the color is superb.

I've seen pictures of ALL AMERICAN CHIEF and it looks like a great red daylily. And I know there are a lot of other big red ones out there. This should be interesting.

Not sure if this is bright enough for you, but I think RUBY SPIDER is beautiful with 9" blooms.

Also, WHOOPEREE may not be as big as you would like, but it has 6.5 inch blooms.

These are both older, so they should be reasonably priced too.

The most sunfast red I grow is ACQUIRE THE FIRE. It is also the best budded of my reds.

My favorite red is Doug's Red Mercedes. The flowers are 5 3/4".

One of my favorite reds is 'Red Volunteer'. It always shows up on most of the Popularity Polls and still wins some. Should grow well in your area.

I know that RUBY SPIDER, ALL AMERICAN CHIEF, and RED VOLUNTEER all 3 show up a lot on the popularity polls, so you would probably do well with any of those.
