I only have two J daylilies, one qualifies for the best. Jolyene Nicole is a good front of the border plant, a nice clear pink and a reliable plant. It did well last season when many here did not.

Jackie Canner --rich, reliable color. Ideally, maybe a couple inches taller. Between front and second row.
Jelly Roll Morton --deservedly prized. Pictures sometimes exaggerate the color contrast, but definitely showy and tall.
John Karl Seager --pristine color in the early garden. A delight this year, as were others in this color that were earlier blooming.
Jan Zoo --good grower, tall, later garden
Joe Burrow. While experience is limited, it has not disappointed.

My Awaken the Dawn never shows peach tones like yours. Mine is a light blush pink. It looks pretty either way! David....Awaken the Dawn opens perfectly nearly every time. Comments (29)Sherry always good to see Buzz Saw opens well for you. Bela Lugosi had washed out color in the heat this year and has gotten shaded out too much. A move is in its future. Well I adore every single one shown. Big Bird on its first year. I love it for the size of the bloom and the clear yellow. Rotten deer ate the buds after this pic. Black Arrowhead wowed me with how quickly it established and I am fond of the shape and coloration. It bloomed over a very long period especially considering its young age. Blue Sheen has a long bloom period. This year was not as good as last but it was extremely hot and dry. I am on a well and do not water. Yes it has its faults, blooms are too low in the foliage and they are smallish blooms but Buffy's Doll is prolific and I really like the coloration....See MoreYour Best E daylilies 2023
Comments (20)I can't comment on the plant habit of Ethereal SC (first year). Its color is a clear lavender, part of Hanson's obsessive quest for purity in that color. Chateau Belair has a bit more orchid tones; it is described as "lilac." I hope that the plant habit of Ethereal is taller than that of Chateau (though at the estate, Chateau is taller than at my residence). El Shaddai is one I would recommend with some notations. Its blooms are less cookie cutter than those of many cultivars, and it is a bit on the short side. Escape Into Fantasy I would recommend. It is heavy blooming, out of Point of Divergence. Comments (19)Mister Mayor is indeed vigorous and floriferous. Mystery of the Ages here looks very promising. Martha Edson Norris, though short, is very showy with its large blooms. My Pet Dragon looks interesting. An acquaintance likes that one the best among Selmans in that range. Malaysian Marketplace is early here; rather slow to multiply. I see that Mediterranean Sailor is a Hanson out of Benchmark. Some others I certainly would recommend. Minnesota Nice --a vigorous and floriferous Emmerich I very much like the color of Mexicali Blues (Rice), but bud count is limited. Mahogany Magic --an evergreen that is well budded. There may have been some slightly-off years, but definitely not last year. Some people don't like this color. I definitely do. Magnetic Springs (Hanson). Clean here this past year and an appealing color. Of course, Morning Mood, though it is front row. Makayla Jenelle --good performer and color from Floyd Boatwright Mitch Lynd, Money Maker, Man Eater, and Miss Moneypenney are also worthy of consideration, but I have already posted too many....See More

JUNE TORER, a new plant from Paul Lewis, did exceptionally well in a few short months. The flower form is perfection; the plant has nice habits already; can't wait to see the kids from this one
JELLYROLL MORTON, never disappoints. Loaded with buds, great color
JERRY HYATT, has never had an 'off' year here. Reliable for the incredible amount of scapes it produces; hardiness and wonderful color. I have several seedlings from it that inherited it's best traits. A favorite.
JODY ANN, not well-known but should be. Sturdy scapes & good branching; high bud count; bloom substance is thick like wax; rock-hardy

Here's a third vote for Joan Derifield. It's never performed as well as it's supposed to because of grubs, but it still puts on a nice show every year.
Judy's Jewel is finally multiplying and having more buds after two years with the right grub killer.
Jitterbug Blues always does well.
Jeanne Deaver's Dream blooms in the later part of the season.
Jewel of Tavares was new last year, but I really like it. Maybe not the best yet, but one of the few J's I have.

2 months agolast modified: 2 months agoSome interesting pinks here. Judy's Jewel I think I've asked about before, since it is a Holley. Sometimes her plants do okay here (but parentage not friendly for here). It certainly is big and fancy. Also, Jody Ann looks appealing, with its muted white midrib.
On the other hand, I must note caveats here in regard to Jamie Dockery-- always much shorter than registered and miserly bud count. Julia noted the same issue. Took too many years and space here. Also, Jerry Hyatt had an off year in 2021, and some others complained about it then online (a year with little snow cover and late spring freeze). This past year, better, but scapes a bit short. Certainly agree that it is a pleasing color.
Jamaican Music does well here. Jungle Jack Joiner, though an evergreen, is a good performer here and attracts attention with its unusual coloration.
I've been very pleased with Bennett's Jubilee Ball, which has high bud count (for here, teens) and rich pink shading. David can post it too.

I have only three to share.
Jean Clement is a lovely diploid. All of Bret Clement's daylilies do well here.
Jeepers Creepers is too new to judge plant habit, but so far, it has been good.
Jena Sallenger is a rather strange color, but it grows well here. In fact, most of Floyd Boatwright's daylilies have done well for us.

2 months agoVery nice group. Sherry, Jolyene is such a great one. Mantis, Jackie Canner and Jellyroll Morton are my favorites of yours. Nancy and others, Joan Derifield is indeed a nice one.
Celeste, Jamie Dockery and Jerry Hyatt are pretty and great colors. Also like Jewel of the Oasis.
Debra, Jewel of Tavones is pretty, and Nancy Jean Clement is my favorite of yours.
Jack Sprat does well and it is pretty. Just never split it. Takes 3 or more years to bounce back.

Jelly Roll Morton is another one we agree on. It does rebloom here which is very welcome
Johnny Cash is a good earlier bloomer and in a bad place at that

2 months agolast modified: 2 months agoMantis - Judy's Jewel is more hardy than others of Bonnie Holley's. It has never been anywhere near the registered height (usually 24-25 inches here. Two years ago one of the scapes had 18 buds. Last year it had 8-13 in a year with no rain. It stayed at three fans for at least three years, and now has multiplied to six. It's a beauty but no seller offers it. I bought it, and two other pinks that did not survive, from the Hollleys the last year their Gold Coast Dayllilies was open. The woman who bought their stock sold it for just one year on the Lily Auction. I wonder if they all died out in California's horrible, lengthy drought.
Some years Judy's Jewel looks very gaudy with gold baubles.

Nancy - Jamaican Love surely loves your garden. The little piece I kept did fantastic two years ago, but barely bloomed last year.

2 months agoThere are many wonderful plants representing the letter J. Jerry Hyatt and Joan Derifield are excellent plants. June Torer and Jewel of the Oasis certainly would look good in my garden.
J.P. Moneybags: Great grower. Tall and blooms over a long period of time.
JUBILEE BALL: A wonderful Bennett intro. I just love how the blooms seem to look at me. I love this shade of pink.
JELLYROLL MORTON: It sat in a pot for a year, but found a home in the ground this past Spring. It even sent up a rebloom scape, which is rare in my area. This has got to be a winner in my eyes (apparently in several people's eyes on this forum).
JELLYFISH JEALOUSY: This is a wonderful Reed intro. It blooms for a very long time. I divided the very large clump this past summer. I kept five fans because it is outstanding in a clump. I've heard that it is slow to increase, but it must like my garden. For a diploid and a UFO, it makes very large fans.
JAZZ ME BLUES: Another Bennett intro. A great increaser and I love the bloom. Will occasionally throw a pattern.
I don't always like to follow rules so this is an honorable mention: JACK BE NIMBLE. Gold is not my favorite color, but this plant just pumps out blooms and rebounds from continued abuse - dividing. I dug up the entire clump in the Spring and moved it to a new location and was unaffected.

2 months agolast modified: 2 months agoSo many interesting ones. Brad, so true that some cultivars take a long time to recover from division (at least here). Life is short.
Jewel of Jewels has an appealing three-dimensional look. But an evergreen, and one good thing about living in the north is that you have fewer cultivars to choose from. Didn't Debra also grow that one?
I am always interested in new cultivars from Floyd Boatwright, though most of his are evergreen.
I like the orange brush strokes of Jack Be Nimble in the close-up. JP Moneybags I agree is a great plant. Good height, branching, bud count--and I find the flower very appealing. It never seems to garner the attention of Judy's UFs though. A lot of people don't like a cream base, and many dislike lavender. I am eager to see Jazz Me Blues perform.
I forgot to include one of my favorites from this summer: Jacob's Well.

Janice Brown never lets me down no matter the weather. Scorching hot and dry the last two years. She blooms over a long period.

And no one mentioned Jane Trimmer. It's a front-row plant, but not stunted, and has performed reliably for years. Of course, every once in a while there is a year in which most things are on short scapes. Usually the result of hard late freezes.
