Matching herbs to different sized pots
Comments (2)Limit your soil selection to a soil you can water to beyond saturation - so at least 15-20% of the total volume of water you applied exits the drain, carrying accumulating salts with it, and you can use any size pot you like - the bigger the better. The larger the pot, the better the potential growth. It's not plant size or how large the root mass is that determines what size pot is appropriate, it's your choice of soils. Comments (2)The heat of the sun, and its light, do encourage certain plants to make more of their essential oils, which contain their flavour, aroma and medicinal virtues in many cases. (We're talking about plants whose leaves are used medicinally, aren't we?) From this, I deduce (just guessing really) that plants which prefer the sun but are grown in shade would not have as much of the essential oil - but whether it is reduced in quality as well as quantity - dunno. Interesting question. I know from experience that mint grown in the fierce sunlight of the subtropics will be stronger in flavour - but the leaves will be smaller than when grown in partial shade. I suppose it balances out. I think the general idea is to grow plants in conditions as close to their natural habitat as possible. For instance, if a plant grows naturally in full sun, grow it in full sun. But if a plant's natural habitat is shaded, then grow it in shade. This way you can ensure you get the best and the most of what each plant has to offer....See MorePlease help me grow Parsley
Comments (12)Glad I decided to check out this forum. Just planted my first herbs in wee hours of Friday morning. I just reread the Flat Leaf Parsley packet and it doesn't tell you to soak seeds before sowing. I just looked at the packet of Dark Moss Curled Parsley (for butterfly garden) which I haven't sown yet and it DOES tell you to soak seeds for 24 hours before sowing. Both are Burpee seeds. Should I yank the Flat Leaf Parsley and start over after soaking fresh seeds for 24 hours? This being my first time growing anything from seed I read and reread the package instructions and check online to verify sowing instructions...LOL. It's like trying to follow a new cooking/baking recipe. Thank goodness there's enough seed in each herb packet for trial and error my first time around!...See Morelemon basil
Comments (1)I don't know what you are asking. If it's customers, this is not the place for that. Most of us, grow our own and buy locally grown produce from our area. Perhaps you will find someone that is in your area that is interested. Good luck....See Morewhgille
