There is not a kerosene heater to be found in Martin Cty to heat my shop.
I wore two pair of socks, long underwear and three layers of shirts to work yesterday. And I was huddled up to a toaster oven trying to stay warm. This is just wrong people. It's FL for crying out loud. Well it's gotta get better sometime.

I just want to know who pi**ed off Mother Nature!

My Florida cracker waterman(AKA husband) sprayed my car with the hose (that we left running all night to keep it from freezing) to get the frost off the window, and my car door got frozen shut- Not for very long, though. I got it open. Oh, did I mention that We had a power outage at 6am? That was NOT fun. All is well, though. It's back on.

You know it's too cold when Your car had been running for ten minutes with the heat full blast, and ice still forms on the window!

I have a kerosene heater but can't find any kerosene anywhere.

I won't get in the WARM spa because I have to take off my clothes and brave the cold for a few seconds before entering.
I think that 65F inside is toasty!
I wonder how long those vandas can take a *no light* situation in the dark corner of the family room.
I won't drive anywhere because I need to get out and pump gas...burrr!

Hope I don't run out of food...hehehe.
Opted out of church last weekend...I don't own long pants so what coud I wear? (shame on me, I know)

I only go out to work...WITH the heated seat on!

House heat is on 78 degrees...and I've brought in NO plants...not even an Orchid...and about a dozen or so are in spike and/or blooming!...apparently they don't mind the cold.
They hafta fend for themselves...I'm not going out and that's that! :)

I'm wearing socks around the house for heaven's sake! I never wear socks...hatem!
Also wear flannels, a fleece jacket and a robe at night while reading or watching TV... its a very attractive look, I might add. *tee-hee

I hate this weather.

...when you run out of food at home but you consider starvation before going outside to the grocery store.

...when for the first time since moving to Florida the water comes out of the tap cold like it does up north.

...when your friends and family up north fill with glee about how cold it is here.

...when you look for the sunniest spot in the parking lot.

...when you consider letting the lizards stay the night inside your house.

We've gone below freezing five nights in a row thus far. This morning came in at 21 and it was all my greenhouse heaters could do to keep it above freezing in there. We're only supposed to go down to 34 tonight and the chance of ice from the approaching front isn't supposed to come quite this far south. This weekend we are predicted to go down to 16 Saturday night and 17 Sunday night. Monday will be warmer at only 24 and Tuesday a mere 31. This is in the Gainesville, FL area.

You know it is cold when they are predicting possibly slee/ snow flurries at Disney on Saturday night. Actually I am getting a good laugh out of your posts. I sleep in a house where the heat at night is 72 and during the day 76. I sleep with a sheet and a thin blanket and two cats. I get up in the morning and take a lukewarm bath and go to work in short sleeves and thin long pants. Most of my co-workers huddle in their jackets until they have to take them off to work. I had ice on my winhshield this morning for the first time and it took the sun three minutes to melt it off. None of my plants were covered in the front area though I do have all the Christmas lights still on and there is no sign of damage. Might think about things a little different on Saturday morning. I wore a long sleeved shirt for the first time yesterday but then I was not feeling well and dehydrated/ I love this weather as it reminds me of Tallahassee in the winter. I dread the heat of summer but that is what living in Florida is all about. I love the challenges and I love the stuff Ma Nature throws at us. Talking about Ma Nature now who went and made Marcia mad???????????????????????
I have been asking the guests at Disney who forgot to pay the man up north to put the logs on the fire that keeps us warm and I had a family from Alaska, Mass and NY admit they forgot and the family fron Winipeg said if I would give them his number they would call and pay him. I am having fun and think it is funny as they have a marathon scheduled for Disney on Sat and Sun and what they are going to do with possible sleet and snow flurries. You turn the heat up to 80 to take a shower, and you have to sit on your hands to go potty. The dogs don't come out from under the blankets unless they have to go out or I go to the kitchen.

You know it has been too cold too long when you want to play at Disney everyday because it is finaly cool enough you don;t sunburn. You know it has been cool too long when you want to clean house and bake and cook all day. You know it has been cool too long when you begin drinking hot chocolate and hot tea.

I still have not worn a coat to work.

I still go out whenever I want to wothout a coat and get a thrill out of the sting of the air.

I have worn a long sleeved shirt outside.

I finally broke down and made a pot of chili becaus it was cold enough to eat it.

I rememver the year it got down to 9 degrees and the water pipes broke outside the building where I worked and we were sent home because we were heated via steam and I took my two african violets outside and into the car and they froze and died just from the short trip outside. I am still used to this cold. Ten years has not thinned my blood and FAT is finally worth something. IT INSULATES YOU. Linda

When you take long, hot baths in the jacuzzi tub for the first time (for me) since it was installed 4 years ago, just to thaw out after covering the plants outdoors (that are already probably frozen to death)!!

...when you have to wear warm gloves (NOT gardening gloves!) to cover the plants and haul the others into the garage!

...when you have to let the shower run for 10 minutes until the water is finally not the temperature of the outdoors (35 degrees!)

...when you wake up with a cat sleeping on your head and another one on your stomach. (I know it's really because they love me and not because they are cold...)

...you tell yourself that you should own more sweat pants!

....when there is ICE in the bird bath!!!

Or when its so cold that the ice in the birdsnest ferns never melted during the day.

OMG - OMG - OMG----I've pulled out jackets and sweaters and leg-warmers and ski-hats and gloves that have been put away for at least 10 years and wore them this morning to go out and get the paper no less... OMG.... sally

When your friends from NH and Maine call and ask if they can send you warm clothes.

You know its been too cold for too long when your 16 year old daughter, who laughed at you for wanting one of those "Snuggies" from the TV ads suddenly takes yours and begins wearing it around the house.

...when one of your shower doors explodes!

No joke, last night a minute after Cathy stepped out of the shower the door exploded. She has quite a few abrasions and one significant laceration on her left shin that's going to leave quite a horse-shoe shaped scar. I'm sure glad it didn't happen while she was still in the shower or we'd probably be at the hospital today. Fearing the other door might do the same thing we had a handyman come over and remove it this morning. Rather than taking it to the dump he wrapped it in a blanket and took a sledge hammer to it so we could also put it in the garbage can. Danged if he didn't have to give it 6-7 good wacks before it would break. Go figure!

That is terrible! But like you said it could be worse. Give Cathy my warmest wishes for her speediest recovery!

This is an old remedy for scars that I have seen produce great results, in case Cathy wants to try.

Take the white membrane from the egg white and put it on the scar. Also aloe vera is good.

How scary! I'm so glad Cathy is OK - or at least as OK as can be expected.

In the summer we have to worry about exploding car windows from the heat and now we have to worry about exploding shower doors in the cold. Bites from poisonous snakes in the summer and head injuries from falling iguanas in the winter. Welcome to scary, scary Florida!

We hit 19 on Sunday morning and 17 this morning. No particular problems (trying not to think of the power bill). The greenhouse made it through OK with the emergency heat.

This morning as I was pouring boiling water into my frozen chicken waterers I stepped on what I thought was a rock. I looked down to see that it was a big chunk of ice that I'd dumped out of a waterer the day before!
