You know you've reached your limit when...
Comments (14)Kate, I'm up somewhere around 200 give or take a few. That's plenty for me while holding down a full time job, with a DH who is becoming increasingly disabled and with bad knees myself. I am only mid-50's; DH is 5 years older, but I suddenly *feel* old this year. Florence, you and Bob are wonders with all the health issues you have worked through and still garden the way you do. You grow beautiful roses - in spite of all the shade from the trees you also successfully grew! ;-) Carla, I will definitely post pictures next year when everything is smoothed out and seeded. I think it will be a nice spot for a bench, too, so I can sit down there surrounded by roses on 3 sides. I'll show you what I mean next June. Karen, we were just talking about weeding out unsatisfactory roses to make way for any new varieties that we covet, weren't we. I know you understand where I'm coming from since our rose gardens are very similar with different levels spread out over a large area and comparable numbers (although I think you have me beat on perennials!) Len, I too can forsee getting to a point where I will not be able to care for all I created - and that includes not only the gardens, but a large house as well. That's where the friends Karen is talking about are at right now. They've just got more than they need and it has become real work to care for it all although they certainly have enjoyed their years there. The trouble is that everyone who sees their property oohs and aahs over it (it is just like a park) but someone looking to buy gets scared. It will take a very special (and young!) couple to take over that garden, or sadly it might have to be ripped out and seeded over with grass to reduce its intimidation factor in order to find a buyer....See Morey'know its been too cold for too long...
Comments (43)...when one of your shower doors explodes! No joke, last night a minute after Cathy stepped out of the shower the door exploded. She has quite a few abrasions and one significant laceration on her left shin that's going to leave quite a horse-shoe shaped scar. I'm sure glad it didn't happen while she was still in the shower or we'd probably be at the hospital today. Fearing the other door might do the same thing we had a handyman come over and remove it this morning. Rather than taking it to the dump he wrapped it in a blanket and took a sledge hammer to it so we could also put it in the garbage can. Danged if he didn't have to give it 6-7 good wacks before it would break. Go figure!...See MoreYou Know You've Got TMD (Tomato Madness Disease) When ...
Comments (95)When you delay going to the doctor (to find out if that pain in your right side is really your appendix) two hours while you water the baby (mostly tomato) seedlings, move them to the basement, and set up the timer and the last shoplights so they'll stay alive in your (possibly extended) absence. When you spend hours of your recovery time writing and printing labels with not only the variety names, but detailed descriptions for the several dozen extra seedlings you're giving to the scholarship plant sale. [It wasn't ever very painful, but the CT-scan impressed the radiologist, the appendix impressed the surgeon, and I didn't get home for 3 1/2 days, which is ... not normal. (I'm convinced it would have been a day or two less if only they'd ever let me sleep.) The seedlings did quite well in my absence.]...See MoreYou know your renovation is taking too long when . . .
