While I haven't exactly learned to live with it, I have determined that I am never going to rid my beds entirely of artillery shot weed.

I don't know if you are familiar with it.

At the slightest touch it literally shoots its' seeds all over. I frequently get hit in the head or the face as I remove the little plantlets. It doesn't hurt but it certainly is an additional aggravation.

I don't know where it came from, but I sure would like for it to go AWAY. It seems to especially fond of the living conditions in my rose beds.

There's some kind of a vine--an ivy maybe--that gets a stranglehold on my shrubs and has to be ripped out all summer long. It's got roots that run right under the surface of the ground and go everywhere. Then it pulls itself up on anything that will support it.

I'm constantly pulling the stuff up and don't expect I'll ever be rid of it.

That dark burgundy oxalis is rampant here. Life's too short to worry about it -- there are worse weeds than that (like crabgrass). I think I have wild oenothera and am ignoring it for now, too.

I have always liked oxalis in the cooler months. It disappears by the time it gets really hot. Some other weeds are also attractive.

I like violets. They used to drive me nuts but sweet violets we get in the South are so nutritious that I love them now :)

We had a whole thread on artillery plant last fall, GardenGranny. Everybody has it, everybody hates it. It's one of those that you kind of ignore when it is just a little rosette of leaves because 'it might be something' and suddenly 'something' is hitting you in the face and shooting seeds for next year.

I am on the opposite side of the fence here - I love oxalis and violets - yes I have to remove them from areas I don't want them but I love the flowers and they are the least of the so called 'weed' plants for me. Half of our acre plus is woods and I do encourage them to grow there - the old addage 'one gardeners weeds is anothers flowers' ......

I spend a lot of time picking maple tree seedlings out of everywhere each spring--beds and containers. It is a minor nuisance compared to some weeds, though, such as quackgrass, which is finally showingome minute signs of surrender.

I have had to give up on the violets. When they are in bloom in white and purple in early spring, I love them, but they do tend to choke out less rambunctious perennials.

I am going to try to keep them out of the drive border where I put the iris....I think I will resort to painting them with Gly-4.

I do dig them up in the various other beds where I have kept them at bay.

I will say this for them, they do look better than weeds and are a beautiful green all year.

The plan is to remove some to the front ditch so I can quit mowing and trimming it....along with vinca minor....just let them duke it out with the oenothera speciosa which I love.

Do y'all not have tie vine? Wild morning glory? If you did, you would not complain AT ALL about a sweet little violet, or a pretty little oxalis.

Do you not have mulberry trees throwing their seeds everywhere, each seed germinating TWICE, I do believe, just to drive me crazy?

Also, we have hackberry trees and that golden rain tree doing the same thing!

Let's not even think about the Johnson grass that is starting to get ahold in the garden about now, all because somebody years ago decided to do a Halloween decoration with bales of hay! That bale of hay must have been all Johnson grass. It was the previous owners did it.....

Also, some people want to grow that kalanchoe "Mother of Thousands", and I run shrieking every time I see it. Every one of those little dots around the leaf is a new plant, they all live forever, and not a one dies before it establishes a huge colony. I refuse to shop at a nursery that sells it, it is that bad.

I hate weeds. Especially MY weeds!

In my garden it is creeping charlie and Lily of the Valley. My neighbor has LOV on our fence line and it invades my garden in 4' and more. I am constantly pulling it. I have purple violets which I love. Each year I dig the seedlings and relocate them, share them ( with a warning) and use them as borders. There is also some kind of clover with tiny yellow flowers that crops up everywhere. Pull, pull, and pull again.

Janie, I have acorns and maples. THOUSANDS OF ACORNS AND MAPLES. I would take the tree out, but it's well over 60 years old and taller than the house. Takes three people to reach around the thing.

These pink oxalis fill in a nice space near my woods - I love the pink oxalis and the white also - but i consider the yellow just clover and definitely rabbit food. The rabbits don't seem to like the store bought oxalis but they love the yellow that you have, token - be careful! :0)

Yep, that is the way I have baby trees. thoouussands of them! My friend has a live oak tho, and it gives her babies off the roots! At least the acorns can be raked, or fed to the deer...OH, WAIT! they will attract the deer! Hide the roses!

OK - I am talking about the pink oxalis also not the yellow - I pull the yellow with a vengence but my pink does scatter around my gardens but that is ok ......

Well, I haven't learned to live with it, but I understand I'll never be completely free of it...nutsedge. Ugh. Hate the stuff.

We have lots of baby hackberry trees, too.

I rather like Oxalis, but, then, I kinda like dandelions, too.

Hmm... this is the first post I've replied to in a while but I'm glad to know what at least one of the weeds are that populate our yard! LOL

We have over three acres of land the front is supposed to be all grass but there's literally hundreds of thousands of weeds in there too.... the back is mostly shaded by the Sycamore trees which I am not too fond of due to the constant branches that have to be cleaned up every time we get a little wind storm.

I'm learning to live with my "grass"... hey at least our yard isn't a mudbath anymore... it's at least GREEN!! LOL and as long as DH keeps it cut it doesn't look like anything but grass from a distance! :)))

Talk about learning to live with something.

Today I would say lady ferns but tomorrow it might be the maple trees. When I moved here three years ago the "front" was nothing but weeds and gravel, fifteen years of gravel and car oil that is and full sun. Now that I have changed the area so much things are growing here that had not been able to grow for who knows how long. Things like the lady ferns that have ruined my sunflower ridge, or the big leaf maples that are competing with my curly bark maple. I have plants growing that I have no idea what they are! They look like something I would buy though so I wait and see. LOL, last summer a "weed" sprouted in one of the beds and since I liked the foliage I let it grow. It grew 6ft and produced delicate white flowers that smelled like jasmine. That was one heck of a weed!

If you've got promising foliage you just might have a chance in my garden. ;-)

My great irritation in the garden is star of Bethlehem, which was here when we bought the house over thirty years ago, lily of the valley--again here when we arrived, and in more recent years, a woody vine has shown up that I just can't seem to get rid of--it is called--climbing nightshade (Solanum dulcamara). It twines its' way up my shrubs and through my plants and is there and huge before I even know it is there. Of course by then the roots are down to China and it takes forever to get it out. Prettiest litle innocent looking blue flowers, though! 8-)

I have violets from the neighbors. They're scary the way they just come up, from nowhere.

I planted oxalis the first year...it never came up. I planted them under the black walnut tree, before I really understood the dangers of juglone. Perhaps it was that.

My DH sprayed (by accident) lily of the valley the first two years. I thuoght he had killed it, but it came back this year & finally bloomed. I heard from someone that it's like a noxious weed. I'm excited to see how that turns out.

I have some sort of mystery plant. It's easy to yank up the leaves, but it threatens to run amuck every year. I was told that maybe it was some sort of tradescantia. I have photos at home I could post.

If I had to pick something, it would have to be the violets. I'm never gonna win that one.

I'm another that battles the violets, creeping charlie AND Lily of the Valley.
I don't mind the violets. Yes, they are everywhere. I pull up hundreds, and leave hundreds. The Creeping Charlie invades everything, including what little grass I have left. I cannot get rid of it. Plus I have LOV on both sides of me. Each year it creeps further and further into my yard. I yank it out by the bag fulls, give it away, stomp on it, cuss at it, and still it remains....The newest nightmare is my sweet william groundcover. It has jumped my
rock border and is now crossing the front yard all by itself. I have another bed that had a small 4 inch or so patch it it last year. This year that patch it 4x4 feet, and spreading. After it's done blooming, I'm going to yank most of it out. Anybody want some?

At the garden club plant sale I visited recently, people were selling Lily of the Valley and violets. I, um, avoided them like the plague! I have allowed the violets to hang out to some degree - I keep waffling about how hard to work at getting rid of it, since it is so pretty.

We're still trying to get rid of the creeping charlie - that stuff is definitely tricky!

I had no idea creeping charlie actually had a name. At my house, I refer to it as "Horrible Terrible weed that won't go away."

It ranks right up there with dandelions.

I think they sell creeping charlie at the nurseries here. As a plant to keep and grow. For high dollar, too.

Isn't it funny, I can barely get LOV to grow for me. I plant it and plant it and it just creeps. I have one spot that after 4 years is about 2' diameter. Same with violets, I have a few here and there, I mostly ignore them and let them grow, they are pretty little plants. Oxalis doesn't over winter for me, I gave up on it. I have a little of the wild stuff, nothing dreadful though.

What I HAVE had to learn to tolerate is a weed called "Harebell" (Campanula rapunculoides) when I first moved here I thought it was pretty, now I realize it's like creeping charlie, I have it in all my beds, I am constantly pulling it, and it never ends. It's almost worse than quack grass! At least if your soil is loose when you pull quack you can get the whole runner. With Harebell the roots are so fine they just break, then reproduce!

I have creeping charlie too, and have not decided if it is a bad thing or not. If it doesn't actually kill or smother my other plants, it is a pretty ground cover. I still pull it, but am undecided.

My husband hates weeds! Yesterday, we had cool temperatures and sunshine. He got out there with me and weeded and then brought in the mulch (we did together). Afterwards, he told me how disappointed he was in the garden until we finished! I was stunned! WHAT? WHY?

Apparently, he's a person who can't see the blooms for the weeds. Whereas, I can't see the weeds for the blooms! LOL
