Sunday Blooms 5-4-08 (pics)

Had some seedlings open yesterday at the parents house, and of course Peacock Maiden stealing the show. That and the dog in the background, some decent pics with my el-cheapo camera anyway lol.

I like all three but mostly the peachy colored one and the yellow!!!

Beautiful!Thanks for sharing. I'm still 2-3 weeks from seedling blooms and I'm checking the scapes several times a time. Hard to wait on the arrival of my babies! Have fun and blessings to all, Mona

Great pics...can't wait till I'm getting some to share. My fav of your seedlings is the peach one also. It resembles my Munson cultivar, Yasmin, which is a favorite of mine.
I've got first time scapes on lots of my year old seedlings also...can't wait for them to begin blooming.

Diana & Karen, that hummingbird has been taunting me all day, LOL! Here is a picture of him sitting still, but it was taken through my kitchen window. Everytime I would go outside to get a closeup, he would start flying around from flower to flower and I couldn't keep up with him. They'll probably only be here for another week or two, and I am determined to get a real clear closeup of one before they go!!! Diana, the plant next to the Dianthus is Alyssum 'Golden Queen'. It was wintersown this year, but it didn't bloom this spring, so I'm looking forward to seeing it next spring. I have to agree with everyone about the Solidago. It only blooms for a short time, but when it does, it is a showstopper! Bonnie

I went to Daylily manor's website, and they have some great deals! They even have peppermint pinwheel, which ive been dying to have, but its still $50. But that is the cheapest ive ever seen a double fan of that one sell for. I had to save the website under my favorites list LOL! That pic was a FFO on a new plant last year, Mildred was the only plant that was new to me that bloomed perfectly, and rebloomed the first year. So far im pretty impressed. I did cross her with some other flowers, but I just dab, and don't label any of the pods, so some of my seedlings may be her babies! At least I hope so. This is my first time trying to bloom my own crosses. I just have all my seedlings planted in a huge pot, and we will see what comes out of them. Im not real serious about it, just playing around to see what I can come up with. Who knows, they may all turn out ugly! Im just keeping my fingers crossed that some of them actually bloom this year. I planted them last summer, so I don't know we'll see! -Jessica

Beautiful!I am jealous of your blooms.I only have 4 blooming now,and the only one doing it right is dumb old Stella!Fire And Fog is splotchy and distorted-just won't open fully,Raspberry Winter looks more like peachy spring,and Frilly Bliss is a munchkin!Nearly all the rest are scaping-early,mid,late-what a bloom season this is turning out to be-lol!I am happy to be able to enjoys everyone else's blooms. Good afternoon! It's 91 F. and sunny here in SE Texas. Where did our "Spring" go??? Everybody has been so busy this week! I'm impressed with those of you who have stayed on your eating plan, worked out regularly, and are feeling positive about things. That's the kind of incentive and motivation I like! I attended our community center's Mother's Day luncheon today. We had a style show first, clothes from Palais Royal, then a lovely high tea/luncheon. Very much "lady foods", but it was all scrumptious! Today I sat with a table of people I've met briefly during this past year, so I had a chance to get to know them much better today. I was the "baby" at the table at 61, and the oldest one was 93. Most of the other 6 women were in their high 70's and 80's. These women are very active in the community and never seem to slow down. They are such an inspiration to me. Tonight I'm going to spend the evening with our friend Susanne helping her get things ready for our ESA state convention next week. I had promised her when Larry was so sick that I would go with her to this if he wasn't up to it, and I will. I'll be staying at night with my son and DDIL while in Dallas, and that will be the only time I'll get to see them while there, but it's better than nothing! Dee, I hope they don't dump too much extra work onto you. Time for another cruise, isn't it? LOL I'm going to see my granddaughters and son and DDIL tomorrow after cohosting a youth banjo concert at our church. Pray for me in the morning because I have to bake 5 dozen chocolate chip cookies!!!!! The doorbell just rang, and it was FedEx with a gift from oldest Dson and DDIL - 3 living, blooming African violets and a wooden collector's box. My DDIL really knows me well and Dson always trusts her taste. If I don't get a chance to post tomorrow or Sunday, I wish everyone here a Happy Mother's Day, whether you're a bio-mom, stepmom, or furbaby mom!

Peacock Maiden is a favorite of mine.

I sure do like your peachy seedling with the huge yellow center!

My monitor shows the yellow seedling with a greenish hue toward the center.

I might be getting Peacock Maiden this summer.
I, like Jan, thought of Yasmin when I saw the first seedling pic. She's one of my favorites too. Your seedling looks to have more 'movement' than Yasmin. VERY NICE.

I have had that peach seedling for a while, its one of the few i have that have a true yellow throat all the way down. Its a cross off of two very old CVs, that i dont have names for. They were both dug from a nearby plantation home, and one (the yellow) had been there since the place was redone in the 30s. I use those two often in my crosses when i do get to make them, the plants are voracious growers, prolifs, and great branching and bud count, they are also two that have never developed rust here in this garden.

These are beautiful. Is a seedling a flower you have bred yourself. I'm just learning. Are these blooms as huge as they look.The top one looks like ten inches! The others look very large too. I am very impressed! Whether you bred them or not they are gorgeous.

BROOKE gosh its been so long since ive heard from my friend with the SPUFS!!!! Love you BTW. But yeah seedlings means some that i have hybridized, most of those are 3year seedlings i havent done any crossing this year at all, dont have time, and the daylilies are 45min away at the parents in foster care...... So when i go i take pics to have something to remember them by. The first pics are of Peacock Maiden and existing hybrid, and yes my blooms for that one get well over 10-14 inches, its an amazing flower. The other purple, is about 7", the yellow is actually the smallest at 5, and the peach is a 6-8 depending on water and sun.

LOLing @ Gerard - It's nice when some of the "oldies" pop in. Wish Royce and MissEllie would show up. I check in every day to see what the Village Idiot spews but don't post much - the forum is in good enthusiastic young hands.

I should have lots of new SPUF seedlings blooming this year from converted material - should be a fun bloom season.
