I can commiserate -- same basic weather here.

We've got a week of hot sun at last. But it's amazing how suddenly watering becomes a critical concern. I really sympathise with the droutees, it must be a constant runaround to never let a plant run dry, even without the scorch. Hell.

Good luck Jimbobfeeny. They're predicting 50% chance of .25" rain here tonite. I could use 3-6" of rain every day for a week to seal the cracks in the ground. Add in 114 F heat index today (46 C), and sh#t, it's hurtin'.

April = 1.36"
May = 1.05"
June = Trace
July = 0.71

Average rainfall over those 4 months is 15" so 12" below normal since April.

The greatest 24 hour rain total over those 4 months was wait for it, 0.35" in May! Most of the rain we got is what I call a foilage wetter.

No rain today - At 70% chance of rain, it never even looked threatening! It's clear now, but there's a "20% chance of thunderstorms". Better luck next time!

The heat dome has really settled in now for central Oklahoma.........again. I really had hoped it would shift this year, even just a little. The newest forecast for the next 7 days....105-110.

This was a couple few weeks ago in my car going home from work to man the hoses. Even though ive been staying on top of things ive still lost around 5 quality conifers. An inch of our "city" water can no way compete with an inch of rain water....there just not the same.

So far we've only had 14 days over 100 versus 25 days a year ago so There really isn't a way to catch last year's running day record. But if we do have another another 2-3 weeks over 100 I really don't know how much damage I'll have again and like Dave will probably begin moving away from conifers for sure.

Until these weather patterns change, what used to be the exception is quickly becoming the norm.

Right now, this area is sodden. Not one, not two, not even three, but four separate heavy storms since yesterday afternoon.

On radar, it's just a residual little cut-off low pressure area taking its sweet time moving away from us. That's good....very good.

But since posting those miserable percip. stats the gods heard my prayers as you stated above. The amount of rain was equivilant to April, May and June combined. Lots of run-off though.

The tool on the news last night actually said thankfully we don't have another storm rolling through then went on to show SE WI in the EXTREME drought category. I felt like jumping through the screen and strangling Vince.

Yeah, those guys are always so dumb. In the middle of an unbelievably harsh drought, they'll be all excited about "beautiful" sunny, dry weather for the weekend...or something to that effect. Cluelessness seems to be the rule.

I was watching a national AM news show on a major TV network this morning. The twit newscaster was asking the weatherman if he was bringing some much needed sunshine. Oh, behind her there is a HUGE map of the US with DROUGHT written across the whole map in bold red. Unbelievable.

I'm sorry, I didn't know that the 109 chanel is the number for the National news show... :0)

Well, you know, the food just materializes in the grocery store, wrapped in plastic and ready to stick in the microwave. Must be like the replicators on 'Star Trek'. Farming and agriculture are great unknowns to the majority of the population. Who needs rain? That's what the sprinklers are for, as long as they shut off early enough that the golf course has dried by the 9:30 tee-time, most people are happy.

Denninmi, farmers and gardeners the world over are just much more in tuned with the natural world and the local climatological norms and aberrations. Thanks to technology, farming is being done by fewer and fewer people and cluelessness seems to be on the rise.:)

Good points, NJ. People growing up today are largely doing so without much of any contact with any form of nature, period. And I'm purposely using the term 'nature' loosely. The other day, I had to take a bunch of youngsters out to show them what wetlands are, the plants and animals there and so on. One little girl said her mom doesn't ever let her walk in "high plants". Sheesh.

Another young couple I know built on a "wooded lot". So there's woods behind the house, but their little Austin can't play in it. You know, poison ivy, other deadly things like that. I asked his folks if there WAS any poison ivy out in that little speck of woods. They both shruggingly responded in a way that told me that A) They had no idea if there was any out there, and B) They wouldn't know the plant if they saw it. Contrast that to when we were kids; all we did is play out in the woods and creek.

The problem, as I see it, is that millions of people will not care about things they've never experienced.

Now what forum is this......? Oh yeah, conifers!
