At first I thought the article was parody like what one might find in the Onion. But it is not. Brutally ironic their claim about indoctrination from a cult that brainwashes it's devotees. Remind me to tell you about the time I attended a Moonie religious service in the early 80s.

Just so you know, if there were any doubts whatsoever about the validity of something, I would check it out myself before posting here. One of my friends teaches in a school near the church where the blessing ceremony was held, and she had to move some of her students to another school that day. The others in her class were kept home by their parents.

So....hmmmm....I wonder what frumpy’s response to this would be...Supportive because they promote and bless guns (He is the NRA’s biggest fan after all) OR “Get ‘EM out of here” because they are not HIS version of “American” and will want them deported.

I could say a lot, but all I shall say is OH MY!!!

There are scary extremists to be found all over. Including many leaders of religious organizations (that some seem to think are mainstream) who want their followers to think that their professed religious practices and affiliations provide validity to their extreme views. Like these Moonies, such people are the scariest extremists of all because too many people can tend to follow them blindly.

When my daughter went to college, she went on a 4 yr Army ROTC scholarship. This meant that during the summer between her junior and senior years, she had to go to Ft Bragg for "Camp All-America" - it was boot camp for college ROTC members.

My daughter is very good at making friends quickly, so she made friends with several girls in her company. She chose the "best of what was available". One girl, was half-Korean and seemed like a smart very nice girl. Her parents lived nearby and came to visit when it was allowed. They had the girls over to their house for dinner one night when they had leave. My daughter walked into the LR and saw a HUGE portrait of a Korean man, and assumed it was a relative. NO, it was the founder of the Moonies and this family (father was career military) were all Moonies. She had never heard of them but quickly discovered what they were.

Quite an experience beyond the Ft Bragg boot camp. She said it was downright scary how "programed" they were and they were clearly recruiting new members (her included!).

Good grief. I had no idea the Moonies had morphed from silly mass weddings to outright, armed, stupidity.

Well that left me speechless. It's going to take a while to process that.

Whoah.

And since they claim to be a church, I suppose they're tax-exempt.

Those kooks are the "poster child" for gun control. I've never really had strong feelings either way until Sandy Hook. Those Moons are totally insane. Hope the Fed's are keeping a close eye on them. Do you suppose someone needs to give them a heads up?

I was hoping the story would at least be picked up by the AP or other national news network. Does anyone know if it has been?

I did hear it on TV on the news but not sure if it was local or national - I was in the other room and just remember hearing something about a blessing for the assault rifles... and the first thing I thought was you have to be kidding me. I didn't even want to see the story.

Had no idea Moonies still existed.
