Cookie you should definitely store them for the winter. Protection from freezing is the biggest factor. Sounds like you've done everything right. Don't let them dry too much before storing, it doesn't take but an overnight or few hours depending on your conditions/humidty. Some people don't even let them dry, just dust them, wrap and store them. Even if you couldn't see, or identify eyes for sure, doesn't mean they aren't there. You might well be pleasantly surprised next spring. I find the eyes are easy to see and tubers are easier to trim/cut into just a day or two after cutting down the plant. After several days out of the ground (if I dig up more than I can do) the clumps toughen up and make dividing a much more difficult task. By the way, the stalks seem to generally stay greenish. The leaves are much more fragile and change colors faster with a freeze or natural decline of the plant to yellow/brown etc. Good luck! I hope it turns out well for you and your tubers.

Ah...now I remember....I clicked on your pic and saw the pictures in your album. It really documents well the process you used to decide on art work. The thing that sets your home apart are the little details. The scarf on the piano and the throw in just the right place and the varied art work. All of it is balanced and just lovely. Your home comes across as being much older. It is very graceful . I think a glass room/conservatory/orangerie would be a wonderful addition. :-) I would not have driven that far normally except that I really have been wanting a vintage desk for my DD's room and the neighborhood was in a nice area near the city that I am somewhat familiar with, so I felt comfortable making the drive. The seller not ponying up extra pictures should have been a tip, yes. But I felt rushed because she was moving out and it was a now or never kind of thing. Usually in those circumstances I go "safe" and just let the item go but in this case I went for it. I must say that I'm a little taken aback by the notion (I'm not saying they were directed toward me) that seemingly "well-off" people shouldn't use craigslist or the thrift store. I could probably come across as being at least a little well-off. I drive a new SUV (only the second new vehicle in my life) and carry an expensive handbag. I like to wear nice clothes. But my SUV is very "basic" inside, not many extras. I have only one handbag to my name, I take care of it, and it is several years old. At home we manually chop firewood and heat our house with an outdoor wood furnace. I wash out my plastic ziploc bags and reuse them rather than grab a new one, I brown-bag every single day, and so on. I do like to be frugal in some ways  not buying new furniture is one of those ways. I don't have the money to buy all the new furniture pieces I want for the house, so used is my option. I certainly don't "over-haggle" and most craigslist prices I've seen I thought were fair and paid them without question. I would not falsely denigrate an item if I really thought it was great. I agree that would be annoying. If I want to barter down, I would say  I really like this, but I am only willing to pay X for it  if you still have it and want sell it later for that price, feel free to re-contact me. I have to agree that it is not so much the price that the original seller paid, but rather the fact of what the buyers are willing to pay that drives things. If anyone is still reading, all my dealings with craigslist thus far have been very good  I make sure I have email and phone communications with the seller ahead of time, and they must come across as very "normal". And the neighborhood has to be safe / low-crime or I wouldn't go. I always let my DH know exactly where I am going, and take someone with me. The items I've sold, I've always met the buyer in a busy shopping center parking lot.

I'm with you on the sugar, Debby. The stuff is wicked. Dr. David Servan-Schreiber's solidly researched book, Anti-Cancer, devotes a whole chapter to sugar. Among other things, cancer cells thrive on it. But the fats are much more of a grey area because again, everyone is different. Dr. Robert Atkins was my MD in NYC. I lost weight on his low-carb, high saturated fat diet, but it raised my cholesterol. Years later I tried low-carb again, but this time eliminated the animal fats. Much better! Lost weight, lowered my cholesterol and blood pressure, and my dangerous triglycerides plummeted. I always say some bodies can tolerate anything, and that includes sugar. My dad couldn't walk up a subway ramp in his forties without taking nitroglycerin. Back then no one ever heard of cholesterol, but he heard of a doctor who did. This guy was ahead of his time. He had my father give up all saturated fats. No more cheese, ice cream, sausage, fatty steaks, etc. He gave them up all at once and never looked back, setting an example that served me well later in life. It wasn't long before he didn't need the nitroglycerin anymore. He bought a bicyle, started playing tennis again, and lived to be 90. But he didn't give up sugar. He and my mother had dessert every night, and cakes were often made from mixes. He loved candy, and Halloween was a favorite time of year. :-) Sugar didn't clog his arteries, and it didn't give him diabetes. However, I can't say the same for me. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in my twenties, with wide swings in blood sugar, plus there were those awful triglyceride levels I mentioned earlier (547 at one point). I suspect I inherited some difficult genes from my maternal grandmother (who died at 43 from a heart attack) in addition to some genes from the diabetic side of the family. So I stay away from sugar--and feel much better for it. When a doctor's office asks what pills I take, and I tell them I take none, they're likely to say, "Aren't you lucky!" Then I say, "No, it's not luck."
