Just to add to PG's comment. Another person asked about an Aralia they own (I believe theirs is also a 'Ming') and I gave some input based on my experiences with growing one. Here you go: "They enjoy humidity, so place them on a pebble tray (I didn't mist mine, didn't seem to mind just the humidity from the pebble tray). To keep them from getting leggy, bright light is suggested. I had mine about a foot away or so from a South window. It got afternoon sun with no problem. They don't like to be wet whatsoever (no houseplant wants to be wet though). You will want to allow it to dry out almost completely (don't let it dry out completely, but don't keep it as regularly moist as you would other houseplants that want to stay moist all the time). It might throw a diva fit and lose leaves, I think I read this can happen in the winter (maybe something to do with the change in the amount of sunlight). It will re-sprout again so it's not dead." It's better to not water on a schedule as that lady advised you, your conditions may me different than hers and you may need to water more or less often than she does. Very strange but there might be something to a rename thing. Trophytaker series has Jen Melon as Jen Melon. Oakes does not list their own Jen Melon but list Star Struck and is listed as Star Struck in the All American series. Why market one with one name in one series and then rename it in another series makes no sense to me, but it becoming to look like Jen Melon and Star Struck are one and the same. Whatever it is, it's a beauty. I have a feeling the Starstruck in my garden is Jen Melon aka Star Struck. One would think the industry could market a daylily under one name especialy if the reason for the name change is 'more marketable name' but then continue to market it under two names. Donna, Blaine is one of the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities; we are directly west on Lake Minnetonka, as Kate guessed. It would be so much fun to have visitors, if you ever get up this way again. Missouribound, I'm sorry you're having problems with your eyes right now and wish you a speedy recovery so you'll be able to get back into the garden. Since we strung lights around the perimeter of the yard I find myself being able to do more after dark when it's cooler. Your sentence, "We're thinking this is the year to sell the house and if so, I need to continue with what I have and not rip it all out." brings up another question. Does an extensive garden make a house hard to sell and if so what would be the best way to handle it? Perhaps that would be a good question to pose to some of the gardeners on here that are in the real estate business.
