Advice needed for spacing young grasses

Hi All,

I was hoping MrMorton or some of the rest of you with grasses experience could advise me on the spacing of the new little grasses I just received from Bluestone Perennials.

The recommended spacing for the miscanthus (Silver Feather & Gracillimus)and calamagrostis (Karl F.)is 30". These plants are TINY. I'm afraid if I space them that far apart now they will be cut down by the mowers etc. I thought if I could plant them 12"-15" apart I could take better care of them with the plan of moving "every-other-one" next spring to replant at the proper spacing.

HOWEVER, having just had the back breaking experience of moving several of the truly wonderful helianthus 'Lemon Queen'(which were also itty-bittys last year) I'm wondering if I should just plant the grasses in their permanent spots.

I have 3 little pennisetum Hamelin as well, that are supposed to be ~ 15" apart.

What do you recommend?
