I'll get us started this week... we,ve finally had some heat and a lot of rain and everything's gone fast forward!

The other kind of lilac - someone gave me the name last year but I forget. (the red thing peeking out is my brand new RAV4, woot! I love it!)

Lovely, Gil :') Your lilac is a Villosa...blooming later, right?
We're having a heat wave, too. The wind is a little stiff, though and things are drying out too fast, but the breeze feels nice in the heat! Burnt the heck out of my back yesterday...ouch! Its so easy to get distracted and not relaize how long you've been out in the sun when you're puttering.

Thanks :))) Karen, Some color combos for yellow: ...with shades of purples and blues, shades of red/orange white, and greens. Mixing the reds and oranges with yellow is going to be more "hot" while sticking with more blues and purples will give a more "cool" or tranquil effect and white ties everything together. A few years ago I wanted to add a punch of red here and there because I had SO much yellow with purple and blue and now this year with all the volunteer red poppies and maltese cross (and even their volunteers) I'm VERY thankful to have all the white LOL! Don't forget anything with big or dark green foliage works too for different texture against fine foliage like yarrow. That is something I'm always lacking here because everything I have is usually fine textured and in the silver or blue/green catagory...like lavender, hyssopus, golden marguerite, yarrow, ect. Usually these are the most tolerant of drought and heat so I tend to go for these the most ((sigh))

Shelley, I haven't really paid attention to how long each individual lungwort blooms because I have so many different kinds and they are all in different areas in the yard. I think a few weeks though. My Mrs. Moon is opening up in different spots in the yard and Dora B. has buds. Others are just poking through the ground yet. I purchased two new ones this year so I think 2 of Mrs. Moon will be sold and those put into her place. Although...deer do not like them so maybe I should make a bed of assorted lungwort in a deer prone area somewhere. I love the dainty little flowers and the combination of blue and pink on the same plant. Brenda

Yay, garden gallery time! Looking good Marcia! I need a trollius too... Here are some of mine from the spring: Jacob's Ladder, Polemonium caeruleum Aquilegia flabellata, not a plant in a hurry. It was wintersowed 4 years ago, sprouted a year (!) later, finally decided to bloom. Primula cortusoides, and our chipmunk named Mr. Chippy, who lives in a hole in the front lawn: Tulip "Angelique" New striped and fringed tulips from Costco - and like everything from Costco they were enormous. ;0) Geum triflorum, also wintersown several years ago and just now flowering: Crabapple very seedy Columbines: Clematis alpina, variety unknown

I don't contribute often any more, but I thought I had to this week. This can help explain why I stay with you guys in the FAR north. By the way, our local arborists explain that we are lucky there was a hard april freeze that delayed our trees from leafing out. Otherwise, there would have been major damage all over town, not just the east half. Also, only half the varieties of trees are fully leafed out, so a lot less limbs fell under SEVEN inches of snow June 10! I was on my way to work that day (the first day of special education summer school, no less!) so I didn't get many pics of trees and limbs and LIGHT POLES and POWER LINES in the roads. My 10 foot plus maple and the neighbors 8 foot lilac bush- both standing again, thankfully. My east side iris bed- the actually blooming iris stalks are under the snow. The day before- June 9, with a forecast of half inch of rain, tops, and temps above freezing Yes, it kept snowing until after 2 in the afternoon, and power was not restored to alot of places (including my school) until noo- that was fun 9 elementary special ed students in a class with no power!

Janet, i don't have Gigantium but i do have Purple Sensation, and it bloomed a couple of weeks earlier than Christophii.

Fast forward is right! I can't believe the week is up and Im just posting!
I put roses in the right place, and here is some other stuff

My favorite bed, since there is no maintenance except for clearing the path!

Cranesbill in the "tree bed" (above) and another taller cranesbill in the walkway beds just opening

My unknown daylily- the former owners had these verywhere- they even bloom in the north foundation bed!

Larkspur and delph- I'm slowly seeding these in other beds. The pics aren't that great of these but the colors come out

And an aside- the easy way to tell he has spent too much money on garage parts and toys
"I can't believe I'm making a home for WORMS!"
