This sounds great. Count me in. I have loads of plants to divide. I gave a bunch away on freecycle in the spring but have tons more I can swap. I have yellow water irises that are in desperate need of dividing.

Must get dividing and potting. One thing I'll have TONS of is seeds for Amaranth Intense Purple. Mine grew to six feet tall this summer (many thanks to whoever put the seedling in the circle last spring). Neighbours and family are amazed. Can't wait to sow some. Oct 9th or 16th work well for me, and the old Rona location too! Peatpod..I belong to Oakville recylcling...do you want me to post something there?

Hey Wendy that was one of my seedlings!! Beautiful arnt they .. I cant wait to plant them again next year. :o) It would be great if you posted on the Oakville recyling .. ask them to respond to this forum. Its the only way I can think of keeping up with trades :o)

I think a good idea (forgive me for being forward thinking), but I think we should all prepare our own nametags for the fall swap..online names and real first name. Saves time for whoever is busily trying to make them up (and missing out on stuff). Just a thought..a little easier to put a face on our "persona".

Suzyq - I had never divided anything in the fall before either until last years swap .. boy did they look horrible :o) Both the hostas and daylilies should be fine to divide now. I am planing on bring a few hostas myself :o) My plants are so huge!!

What types of daylilies do you have?? I would be intested in some depending on the color.

I hadn't realized it was the Thanksgiving Sunday - maybe we should switch dates? I can still come on the 9th as we are having our dinner the 10th.

- wild geranium (small plants that will spread, very lovely large pale pink flower on tall stems - big blooms for a cranesbill)
- 1 columbine, probably tall white
- 1 chestnut tree seedling, about 18 inches tall
- 1 sheet black plastic for killing off turf
- small maroon cranesbill, doesn't mound but spreads by seed

I received your email and yes I will hold onto the plants you requested :o) The salvia Purple Rain will look really crummy as it does not like to be moved too much but it does recover .. the brugs will be unrooted cuttings but will root and grow so easily. The others will do well so not to worry :o)

Yes the date has been firmed up to Oct 16 @ 12 noon. We will be meeting in the parking lot of the old Rona store on Fairview street.

Yes pine needles are a great mulch for acid loving plants .. so anything ... and I mean pretty much anything garden related can be used for trade. Just make sure you prearrange "weird" trades with individuals prior to collecting all that stuff :o)

But if you arn't into irises or the hydrangea, I have dbl white liliac "MME Lemoine" saplings, I have single very fragrant pink liliac "Bride's Blush" sapling, I have dbl columbines, campanulas, delphiniums, hemerocalis, lupins, siberian irises, phlox, all kinds of stuff. Does anybody want some pink brugmansia cuttings? I have a few left and just found out today that I should be available to come on the 16th. There should also be some white brug cuttings, or even a small plant. I may also have more dahlia tubers. I'll be digging them up on this coming Tuesday.

I will bring some brug plants, Laura. I have a few extras, as well as some cuttings.

After work today, I was digging up some dahlias, to see if I have enough tubers to bring. Laine2 asked for some. I think I will have some, but honestly I ran out of time with my "social convenor" telling me I had to be elsewhere for supper. Oh, the trials of being a socialite. LOL.
Don't worry, Laine, I will bring some, but not a whole lot. Maybe next spring however.

Looking forward to seeing everyone today. Anyone bringing nametags? I have to bring the dogs as I'm going on to my brother's place after, so I'll be fairly easy to indentify: purple station wagon with 3 dogs inside!

After I left the swap I was off to another gardeners home in Hamilton to pick up a palm with my friend .. he had some really lovely things .. really wonderful hostas, grasses and various tropicals in his greenhouse. I just returned a few moments ago ..

Hi everyone. Sorry I missed the swap - I did drive down and couldn't find you! Rather frustrating, and embarrassing as I know the area and for years dropped my ex off and picked him up daily from the Go stations. Sorry people dug things up for me and ended up stuck with them...I'll be at the spring swap for sure.

I find water grown roots are not as good as soil grown roots. That said, it is still important to get the roots started in water ( I feel) When the pinks start to root, and they are about a cm long, I would take it from the water, put a small amount of rooting hormone on the cutting, and then pot it up. Give it a good drink until the water runs out, and you are sure there are no pockets beside the cutting. Then put it into a bright, but not direct sunlit area and the roots will begin to form. Don't water again until the soil is dry, and the leaves indicate it needs some. Then water well again, and let it sit until dry again. We don't want to rot the roots. Wintering is different than watering in the summer. I water mine once a week or so ( as they tell me ), if they are in light, and once a month if they are dormant. After about a month or so when they have established good roots, they can be moved to a sunlit window. Often you can see them coming from the bottom of the pot.

I'm sorry I'm a little late with the message. Thank you to everyone who gave us their extra plants. We just dug up a new section of our yard, all the plants were very helpful. Looking forward to getting all our seeds we received started in the early spring.
